Yes, only 18,000. Pathetic really but typical of Sydney, we're not nearly as supportive of sporting events as you Mexicans.

Good game though.

They send down the best players in the world, who present themselves to the media as favourites, and ooooooooooops, they play like a bunch of pansys.
One comment on the ABC Radio this am made a good point. The International Team of Stars had built themselves up to be so good/exceptional and going to clobber the Okkers, a lot of people wern't prepared to spend big bucks to see their home team massacared.
Really do hope they play better this next game, (and even win), otherwise the only people going to watch the last game will be those with free passes.
Cheers
Phillip

Guess what today is?..........

National-Beno-Day.

Ritchie is 75 today.

Always enjoyed his commentating, and have always wanted to here him say "on day 2, 2 for 222 with 2 wickets in hand". :D

I just love the guy.
Cheers
Phillip

Re: Dunaruna, Kiwi Phil & Get Reel

Triton, Sydney harbour on NYE was top of my list of things to do (after seeing England retain the Ashes of course), It would be great to spend the evening with you, I've taken your email addy and I will get in touch shortly.

Aldo, Its 06/07 Ashes series, because I fly in on the 24th I do not get a great deal of spare time in Melbourne but it would be great if we could get together for a beer, if you feel like a realy fun night you will have to come out and meet the rest of the BA. The Melbourne match looks like its going to be fantastic, if Cricket Australia give us the tickets it has been estimated that there will be over 30,000 England fans there, now that will be a party.

Phil, Did you see the ovation Ritchie got durring the last day at the oval, he was the voice of cricket and I will miss his commentary.

As for the game I thought it was a bit flat, I only got to see half of the first innings before work, the stadium looked and sounded very empty, and what cricket I did see was not all that great with the exception of Gilchrist. Lets hope things improve.

Re: Dunaruna, Kiwi Phil & Get Reel

Thanks Triton. I appreciate those comments.
Here is one for you:
"What do you call a Kiwi with a Weather under each arm?. A **** of course".
The Gumboots were always more effective than velcro. Like everything else, the old gadgets always work best. :D

I am now an official Aussie, with paperwork and a free Native to prove it. (bet that ones got the Yanks in a dizzy spiral.

I missed the ovation for Ritchie. That was a pity.
When I am delivering (8hrs), I listen to our ABC Radio (like BBC) and they interviewed Ritchie for a good time.
In the interviewers presentation of him, he listed his cricketing feats. I think he said he took over 200 test wickets and over 2,000 test runs. A very good record.
He was asked for his opinion on the 3 most important things to happen to the game.
His answer:
1. The Aussies first series win over the Brits in 1870(?) and the burning of the bails to form the ashes. (meaning the development of the sport)
2. I think this was the body-line series of the '40s(?)
3. Was the introduction of the 1-day game.

Great interview.
Cheers
Phillip

Well now. Just heard the half time score.
Looks like our team of 'all time greatest cricket stars the world has ever known' have a bit of work ahead of them. Something like 328 runs to win.
Personally I hope they get out there and do it....no, I will correct that statement. I hope they are brilliant, smash the ball all round the field, and loose by a couple of runs on the last ball.
Cheers
Phillip

Well my goodness................
What can a fellow say?
Auzzie, Auzzie Auzzie, :p :p :p
Lets go back in time.
That "fancy" team had me a little concerned there for a while, well....for a long time actually.
Then I began to worry I might have got my wish of a post or so back, but the final result the other way around.
Finally, a good game.
Hopefully the 'visitors" will put on a real show in the next game. I am amazed at their batting line up, how could the Aussies ever match them.......
Cheers
Phillip

Re: Dunaruna, Kiwi Phil & Get Reel

I've just had a look at the score card (didn't get to see any of the match) it looks like it was a dam good match up to the last few overs, shame I missed it.

I had to smile at 1 score,

R T Ponting run out (Flintoff)

I bet Freddie enjoyed that one ;) ;) :D

Triton, 5mtr long is not a problem as long as it's got a 200mtr beam :D . Don't panic, the army have got thier own party arranged and if the stories of previous years are anything to go by I think being on a boat in the middle of Sydney harbour is the safest place to be. :D

RPJS
If the Cricket Army is anything like the Rugby Union Army, I would suggest the best place to be on New Years Eve is as far away from them as possible.Cheers
Phillip

Did you see the big six Symonds hit? Nearly touched the roof girders! And Gayle was bl00dy awesome to watch, pity he didn't last. If anything Fast Freddie looked 2nd rate compared to Gayle, Dravid and Sangakkara. Is Freddie injured or just not bothered because it's not for Mother England? As for Shoab, what a dismal display.
Really looking forward to Sunday.

I'll tell you what I'm thinking.
This International Team has been loaded with top class batters, with half being able to bowl too.
I reckon they will be awesome in the tests if they can get going.
It will also be interesting to see the final Aussie line-up for the tests, especially if a couple of the 'new' guys do exceptionally well tomorrow.
Cheers
Phillip

Re: Dunaruna, Kiwi Phil & Get Reel

Well, what can be said.
That bunch on international pansy's made utter fools of themselves yesterday.
I initially felt they had Aussie on the ropes, then those 2 batsmen played slowly and sensibly to get a reasonable score, against great fielding and bowling, but i didn't think it would be enough.
Then on came the prima-dona pansys and completely upstaged themselves with thier stupidity with the bat.
Granted, wickets like Laras' went down to excellant bowling, but when that Englishman started belting the ball for 4's and 6's at such a crucial time in the match....what on earth holds this mans ears apart. All he had to do was settle down and get 5-6 runs an over or 1's and 2's and they could have taken that game down to the wire. But no, they couldn't even play out their 50 overs, and that is a sign of a very poor team.
I get real annoyed at wasting time watching 2nd grade performances.
I also hope they play a whole lot better in the tests. Of course I want to see Aussie win, but more importantly it has to be a great game.
Cheers
Phillip

Re: Dunaruna, Kiwi Phil & Get Reel

I've got to agree with you Phil.
It goes to prove that you don't need the best players in the world to win matches, what is important is good captaincy and a great team spirit. England proved it durring the summer, when on paper Australia were the better side.
This world XI is just a bunch of individuals who's allegance and team spirit is with thier home countries.
Also these matches are being played on the back of what was the best test series ever, and with those matches still fresh in everyones minds the world XI will have to do something very special to impress.
Lets hope the test arena will be a chance for the individual to shine.
