Regarding the tow capacity... Yes the brakes will handle it. Yes the power train will handle it. How will the short wheelbase do with less than perfect loading in a less than perfect condition? That's for you to decide. I can say I have towed similar loads with narrow and/or short wheel base vehicles and its all good, when its all good.
There is quite a bit more to the Ecoboost system than being turbocharged. It should prove to be a good platform, Ford does not need an under-performer at this point to be sure.
Just to throw this out there, drive-by-wire is more common than cable throttle controls and has been for some time on both cars and trucks.

Ecoboost looks like a good engine... but you wont catch me driving one, the idea of electronic throttle control scares me
