Did you rebuild the engine or did you have it done. The reason I ask is because if you rebuilt it, the answers to your question would be obvious. If a shop did it for you then you're better off leaving the auto oiler on it at least until the warranty is over.

Re: ELIMINATING MY 1989 xr4 oiling system

Can i remove the oil tank and all there lines. Can i remove the drive shaft to the oil pump and remove the oil pump all together and build a block off plate for the pump hole, or do i leave that in so the sensor will pick up the pump is still turning so it wont trip the warning alarm. And are the 5 hoses to the little check valves going to the cylinders on the block- pump lines for the oiling system and can i remove them and block them off also. Thanks for reading my post's

First you need tha "right" block off kit. It will have a stem on it that will make sure tha brass bushing inside tha motor doesn't work its way out after you pull tha pinion gear. Remove all oiler related parts. Plug tha vacume hole right under tha starter. Remove tha warning module. You will no longer get tha test beeps at tha turn of tha key. Leave all tha other "bleed" lines alone...................

i HAD THE BLOCK MACHINED AND DID IT MYSELF

O.K. then you know what the inside of that block looks like. Like DD say's go get the correct block off kit. You can buy the correct type at www.promarineusa.com. Download the catalog, look up the part nr in the catalog and then go back to the website, search the part nr you looked up and you will be able to order it. Many of the items they have are not easily found using their website alone.

You may have to order the O ring separately. Don't know why they sell it that way but they do.

The plug goes here -

DD is telling you to remove the alarm module because the rotational sensor won't be working and it will set the alarm off. If you don't have room on your dash for a Temp gauge then find an older module that doesn't use the rotational sensor and you can keep your temp switch alarm.

The oil alert module has absolutely nothing to do with the overtemp switch and alarm, except that they are wire or'd at the terminal strip on the starboard side above the switchboxes. You completely remove the oil alert module, but leave that terminal strip, and temp circuit on it, and the now unused 12 volt switched power lead on it.

Hope it helps

Re: ELIMINATING MY 1989 xr4 oiling system

John, I have three alarm modules in my possession. All three are slightly different. Two of them I took off of motors with motion sensors and have provisions for input from the sensor. One of them is off an engine that didn't have a motion sensor and it only has provisions for input from the oil tank switch and the temp switch.

Its more than likely that the way merc produced these modules in a somewhat random manner has me confused. But you know me, I'd rather see it on a gauge then wait for an alarm to tell me my engine burnt up so I always remove them.
