Employee pictures on company Facebook page?

The company I work for has decided this would be a good idea but I'm really not sure what I think about this. With cloning and photoshop, I'm really uncomfortable with the idea. Just wondering what others think about having their picture spread all over the place on the internet. I'm not even sure why a small company really needs a facebook page. We're in a rather specialized market (radiation protection) so we're not soliciting business from the general population. What do you guys think, am I just resisting progress and being paranoid?

You work for them, but you own your image. The work place is private. And have they given a reason why they want to do this? Do they give you the right to refuse without penalty? Silly idea

No real discussion on it, just a secretary digging through some old photos and asking if we had any better pictures than what she found. It was a rather "by the way" comment that she was going to put our pictures on the new company facebook page. Just seems weird that some people think that their personal lives have to be broadcast every 20 minutes and don't understand why everyone else doesn't do the same thing.

Someone should have a discussion with her. It sounds like she is the decider. I personally think it is an invasion of your privacy if they do such a thing. Facebook is so safe - sure.

I am with you, PP40. My name and image are "public" on iboats because iboats is part of who I am.

No Facebook, no Youtube, no etc. I think that too much public exposure is like walking alone at night in a dangerous neighborhood. There are predators there, just waiting for a chance to do you harm.

Interesting...... I work for a non-profit organization and during the initial paperwork for the company...... a release was included for photos. I guess I am not as private as some......... as long as my photo is not on the Post Office wall (where people really do not look) or on a milk carton I am okay.

It's personal preference

I though the predator's at the Hideout had 4 legs and fur!! ;)

Threaten to sue them if they proceed in placing it on any internet without your permission.

Put it in an email, this way there is proof that they received it with a date etc:.

I do not allow my wife to use or mention my name on facebook or any other web site.

The Hideout is not a dangerous neighborhood. The internet is.

Might not even have to be that forceful..
What about just asking them not to put your image on Facebook. Unless it's for an actual Company profile for agents that would deal with customers.

Re: Employee pictures on company Facebook page?

I thought a good long time before posting my picture on this site in a post-a-picture-of-yourself thread and finally decided to do it.

I have a facebook page but never post photos that are not very generic in content if I am in them, and never say anything in a post that I wouldn't say in a room in front of a thousand people (x 1 zillion on the internet). I don't get a LOT of young people I know who put up pictures of every breath their babies and kids take. I think they are extremely naive and much too trusting. My privacy is my most valuable possession.

Either way, it should be your choice, not your company's, and they should be sensitive to that fact. Just wondering...how old are the people who are assuming you'll agree to this?

first, welcome mr. landry, you are the best.

if my pic and info is going to be out there for the world then I am going to be the one that is in charge of it - not the work place. i think i would be raising a little trouble over that.

I can't understand why they would want employee pics in the first place for a company in your field. You would think they would want to show pics that will portray stability, like what the company can offer it's customers with pics of the building, equipment, jobs you've completed etc.
It doesn't make sense to me to go with the family image anyway in that specialized market, so I would advise against it.
