Well I was surfing here tonight and found out my engine on the boat I
purchased a few weeks ago is to big of an engine rated for the hull.
Its an 80 hp Evinrude speedifour, it started and ran fine when I dunked
it in the lake on the way home when I picked it up.

But I am not interested in having an engine that is 10 hp over what I
need on the boat, it looks like most of the stuff I will be replacing or
messing with in one way or another. And the last thing I want is a
messed up transom.

So anyhow when I take this thing off the boat do I stand it in a corner
on a stand or what ? I plan on taking the entire top of my boat off and
this will be in the way of that. Are the drive cables and so on easy to take off?

I would like to keep it in good shape incase I sell or trade the
thing... is why I am asking the best way to store this. Do I need like
an engine puller for this or will it stay hooked to the transom as I
unbolt it ? I don't need to loose any toes lol.

thank you

you need a cherry picker, or a large beam with chain hoist. keep the controls and wiring with the motor. do not cut anything, fine the connector.

That motor is 200pounds +. You can remove it with the help of two friends. First disconnect all cables, electrics and fuel lines. second, build a stand for it. Third, lower the trailer tongue to the ground and build a cradle for the lower unit. This is a couple of pieces of wood nailed together to allow the weight of the OB to sit on the antiventilation plate, and gearcase instead of the skeg.

Put the cradle under the motor. Loosen the transom clamps and bolts. Have two guys grab it to steady it, while the third lifts the tongue of the trailer, freeing the motor. Pull out the trailer and move the stand under the transom clamps. Tighten the clamps. Now stick a hand truck unter the stand and roll the motor to it's place of storage. Give the guys a beer (optional).

were did you hook the chain hoist or cherry picker? Make a lifting rig using the three threaded holes on the fly?

berry79, start your own thread, and what motor you have.
