Oh, that is so easy. I really have to build something for the outdrive like that and save my back.

Re: Engine Removal

Just found this from Don S. dated 3/01/07:

The A7 is the older style coupler used on engines with SN 0F000000 and below, while the A5 is used on the newer SN 0F000001 and above. The newer coupler (A5) has a longer tube with grease zirks on it to lube the shaft. The older one did not have that extra tube.
The newer one requires a yoke shaft with 3 orings on it. The third oring is to hold the grease in better and dirt out.

My upper unit is only three years old but I still think it has the old shaft with only two o rings. I'll have to look and see.

Question? Three o rings total on the shaft, one just below the splines and two near the yoke? If that is the configuration then my drive shaft is a newer model with three o rings.

Re: Engine Removal

Thanks livin, I'm having a local boat dealer do the bellows, lower shift cable and gimbal bearing, I've done them before and do not want to do them again. I'd rather pull the engine and do the coupler then do the bellows again. I do have an alignment tool.

I know what you mean lol. A couple days and several layers of skin later I knew why they charge so much to do them.

any aftermarkets are copies of the oem part. question is, how close did they come. i'd think oem parts are tested to be sure they live up to the mfg. expectations.
i personally try to use oem parts, if i can..
