I have a 1971 55HP Chrysler. Model 557HC serial 3188. It was running. The problem was the tower was sticking. And the fuel pump sediment bowl was dirty. I changed the diaphragm, and the gasket. I also changed the fuel sediment bowl gasket, and cleaned as well with WD-40. I removed the fly wheel and cleaned underneath. I put alittle grease around the breaker plate and cleaned also. All this solved the dirty fuel pump and the tower no longer sticks. I put back together. I tried to start (Now it was running prior to all this) I spray fuel in carb. several times. It would not start. When I checked for spark I noticed the lower plug wire just fell off the coil. I put it back in good. I tried to start again. Sprayed more fuel in carb. Still would not start. I noticed that when I turned the key you could see fuel spitting out of mouth of carb. Put finger in side and very wet. I am hoping I just flooded it, by spraying all that fuel in carb. It did back fire loudly twice. The battery is now dead and on charger. Do you think it's just flooded? What else could be the problem? Go ahead Frank, say it. (LOL)
