I am in the process of repairing a 1985 Astroglass bass Boat. I had to replace the deck and the stringers due to rot. The foam was water soaked. I was replacing the foam and somehow when I pored the foam in the center section the foam filled the drain channel. I would prefer not to have to dig all this foam out. My question Is it important to keep a drain channel at the deck area if the entire area under the deck is full of foam with no area for water to be stored and the deck it self is entirely fiber glassed in?

Re: Epanded Foam Deck Replacement

I guess not if the below deck area is 100% filled with foam....what happens if the foam becomes waterlogged? Is the new foam waterproof? The drain holes (really called limber holes) are important to get the water from other areas of the boat's bilge (or below decks) to drain to the bilge pump area. On older boats there was a small chain fed thru these holes with a spring on one end. Then you would reach down every once in a while and give the chain a pull to keep the holes clear so that the water would run free. Good luck.
