Eska 1747B Question

I have an Eska 1747B 7HP motor with FWD and REV.
It was stored for many years but does have good compression
and fires up.
I took the bottom end apart and found a few worn parts, replaced them all,
except the clutch assembly.
My question pertains as to how this combination of fittings work.

There is a 1/4" pin that fits dead centre in the top half of the assembly.
It appears at one time this pin was fixed to this part.
It is now however broken off.

The bottom part of this assembly has a spring inside, and fits to the spline of
the main drive shaft.

I have contacted a couple of the part suppliers mentioned on here and (certified )supplied all except the clutch assembly.
Told me not available and to weld the old assemby which will cause the motor
to only start in drive.

I have machine shop experience and feel I can machine new ones except I am
not sure the function of this broken pin.

Can any one help me here please.

Re: Eska 1747B Question

I can't find the pin you refer to in the line drawings in my aftermarket manual.
perhaps a picture as I'm not sure where your talking about. Only pin I saw was a rollpin to position the gearcase.Unless there is a strong nostalgic attachment or the need to tinker you should probably pin the clutch and fire her up and see if you like its operation. They are noisy, vibrate, underpowered and finicky. If you have a need to tinker it will supply plenty.

Re: Eska 1747B Question

Thank you for the reply.
I probably gave a wrong description as to a pin.
I have a line drawing of the clutch assembly, along with all the other parts
that follow along in line.
The clutch assembly is not itself broken down.
After some thought and inspection the pin I refer too could be a fixed part
on the top section of the clutch that possibly was to help keep the bottom section and the top section aligned properly, and it got sheared off.
Looks like locking the clutch in drive is the way to go.

Thanks again
