A friend of ours just purchased a Etech 90 HP. The motor is every thing that is claimed in regards to noise, economy, emmissions and power.
If I only had one word to describe it it would be "refined".
Cant wait till 9.9 Etechs become available as I am considering buying 15 of em.

Re: Etech

Heard a lot of good things about the Evinrude E-Tec engines.

I suspect that a 9.9 E-Tec with all of the electronics, high pressure pumps, etc. would weigh well over 100lb, bwalker.

Don't hold your breath.

Lets just say a bird told me their on the way.....o:)According to my Yamaha rep the last year for two cycles in Canada is 2008. The camp market really needs two cycles up here as its common to fly motors in plains which results in four cycles leaking oil and to leave motors in the bush year round making maintenance almost impossible.

Re: Etech

Interesting that Canada is going to outlaw two cycles. Do you know if that will affect people such as myself that likes to go to Georgian Bay once in a while? I guess better wording would be, do you know if they are going to let two cycles across the border? :$

Re: Etech

They are not outlawing two cycles at all. They will just no longer being produced. Yamaha(merc and the others too) has been paring back their two cycle offerings up here and in the US for years. We just lost the 3 cycl 30hp last year which was tough to see go as it had a stellar reputation.

It was an off topic hijack, Elvin. That is rude in my book.

Re: Etech

Bwalker, Thanks for the information I think my next boat will have a E-TEC on it I was thinking it would have a Merc 4 stroker. But so far from everything I have heard E-Tec sounds like the way to go. Here in California couple of lakes are no 2 strokers or pwc allowed already.

Re: Etech

Mike, and Elvin.

Suppose someone started a conversation about E-Tecs at dinner. You pop up, ignore the topic and make a comment about color. . .or popcorn.

That sends a clear message. . ."You and your topic are not worth discussion. Go away."

I was offended that you guys did that. So was BWalker, based on his response.

Personal insults don't have to include bad names or bad language. They need merely to send an offensive message.

Re: Etech

E-Tec's are going to be around for a long time. They acutally burn cleaner that the 4 strokers. I love my 15 hp Honda, but if they have an e-tec 15 when I need to repower, I would sure buy one if they're not cost prohibitive. Right now most dealers will not cut any deals because they sell everything the can get into the store.
I have been following them on other forums, every one is impressed with them. I am sure they have had a few problems, but nothing like Mercury had with the Opti-Pops. I think they worked out the wrinkles before putting them on the market instead of using the market to test the engine.o:)
