seafoam seems to have the same qualities as wd-40. does anyone know if it would serve the same purpose as seafoan? It is available all most everywhere.

Mercury Power Tune has the same qualities and Mercury advises on the instructions to spray into carbs until it floods itself out. I used a can of this stuff last weekend and my old 69" merc runs 10 times better than it did before I used the Power Tune. It doesn't spray like a regular carb cleaner it foams up and expands, gets into all those little places and such.

Yeah, go ahead and spray some wd40 in ya carbs and see what happens...hehehe :D
I'm suprised to see this topic I made got so popular, I must be good. Whacha think JB? Thanks for adding in this forum.
Sea Foam is not a part repairer nor an alternative to a blown head gasket, or something of that nature. All this stuff is good for is to keep the motor cylinders and fuel system clean.
I see alot of problems on this site and on the water with people having the simplest problems such as a clogged jets, nasty build up in carbs, ect.ect. It is a good idea to keep a can of this stuff onboard incase of emergencies or for preventive maint., but remember this, noething can beat a good carb. rebuild and tuning.
Also, there is good alternatives with slightly different ingrediants as sea foam that do the same job, just so happend sea foam sells the best. I thik that if you buy the bottle, you get more for your money than buying the deep creep. Although, deep creep is alot more better to use because of the aresol can.
Evertbody keep adding posts to this hot subject, I wanna hear as much as I can about this product, I like to proove the know it alls wrong who think this is a bad product.
Good fishin guys and god bless america.

Hey...I never thought about this before but you probably would get alot more for your money if you just buy the liquid and put it into an old spray bottle...

Amsoil makes a product called Power Foam that I've had good luck with in cars & lawn equipment.
It recently worked wonders on a weed wacker that was getting hard to start & run. I once had the rings in it replaced because of carbon buildup & I think that was the problem again. I plan to use it before the end of the season on my recently acquired used 40 hp.

Re: Everyone should read this about sea foam

I first heard about sea foam in 1973 when I got out of the Army. A friends father had been using it for years and swore by it. I have used it since and has caused no problems that I am aware of. I have added it to chain saws, chippers, lawn mowers, outboards, snow blowers, trimmers, leaf blowers etc. and since I am not very anal at keeping the maintainance up it seems to help.
I am using a snowblower my dad had from around 1983(2 cycle) that I use and other than putting sea foam in the gas it always starts.(spark plugs also)
My wife added non sea foam treated gas to our chipper last year without my knowledge and when I tried to use this summer would not start. I drained the gas line to the carb and also the tank. Sprayed a bit of deep creep into carb, new gas treated with sea foam and pulled spark plug to clean and regap, and it started on the second pull.
Until someone proves it is a waste of time I will continue to use.(also use on my vehicles periodically both in the crankcase and fuel tank. My daughters 1995 spirit had a bad head gasket and the person who replaced was surprised how clean the internal parts were. 170,000 and going strong.)

Re: Everyone should read this about sea foam

Not a bash on SeaFoam. I've been running OMC Tuner for at least 15 years (bought a stock pile before they went under)with good results. I decarb once a year and never have problems either. One session takes 100s hrs of crud off and leaves the parts sparkling like new but it has to be hot to work best. I suppose Seafoam does this too but even with their added oil you are still running solvent through the motor. If the solvent is breaking down petroleum crud then how is it NOT breaking down the lube too?

I think using these cleaners on a weekly/monthly basis is major overkill. Motors just don't get gunked up that fast unless they have major problems. Disassemble an "untreated" 2 stoke outboard and see how clean it really is after 200-300 hrs. It isn't dirty.

Are we voting again? If we are voting, I'm voting for it. Did you guys count my last vote? Can we get a recount?
