Hello!

Put my boat in the sea today after winter. Everything seemed to work fine, so I took her out for a ride. The engine acted normally. So, I started by going at slow speed for about 10-15 minutes, and then I run her a bit harder, about 1/2-3/4 throttle. Everything worked fine, but after say 5-10 minutes she suddenly died.

There was no fuel-pressure. I manually pumped the fuelbulb and restarted again. But as soon as dropped the manual start-throttle to bottom, she died almost immediately. I managed to ge her going by beeing fast and putting forward gear in before she died. With just a little throttle she worked just fine. A went home again and she behaved as usual. But still wouldn't idle...

Any ideas? I changed the water-separator just before I put her in the sea. I have also had the tank half-filled, which might no have been a good idea. Could it just be that the idling throttle is set to low?

thankfull for any tips..

I think you may have a clogged low speed jet on one or more of the carburetors, of which there are two.

Hello, can STP injection cleaner do the job? It's the only chemical I found for cleaning carburetors and stuff.

The carbs will have to be disassembled and cleaned.

Ditto DJ. I would recommend OE kits.

The problem with trying to "run 'em clean" is that if the fuel is restricted, so is the oil. Pistons dont like that. We always try to keep our pistons happy.

Had same problem on my Johnson 90. When you clean carbs make sure the low speed jets are all clear. On my Johnson these holes are in the throat of the carb right where the butterfly valve is. They are very fine sometimes smaller than a sewing needle. Also don't forget the low speed idle needle and seat. Must be clear also. It is very easy for any of these to get fouled and upset your day.

Hi,
thanks for the replies. I will probably go down tomorrow. Some more questions though:

Can it harm do out STP injection cleaner in the gasoline? Will it do any good?

Is it hard to remove and dissasemble the carburetor, is there anything I should have in mind?

Thanks for all help

Re: evinrude 110 won't idle

Hello,
I removed and cleaned the two carburetors yesterday. Now it idles as it used to. However, I'm not perfectly happy yet. The engine feels like it's about to die on every stroke, and eventually it usually dies. It idles at ~6-700 rpm. Should I increase the idle speed? In that case, where do I find the idle-screw?

Thanks for all your help!

asok....can you post a year or model number please? I believe what you need is a manual. OEM's are preferred because of the specific info for a particular engine. In there you would find how to do a sync and link and get the engine tuned in to idle correctly. Check the sites below for reprints of the original manuals.

http://www.marineengine.com/manuals/johnson/

or

http://ww3.kencook.com/evinrudejohnsonmanuals/
