Hello!

My father have just got his new boat delivered.
We chose the new evinrude 150 E-Tec for engien.
I have discovered that the price difference between the 150 hp and 175 and 200 is not so great in the us, but here in my country the price difference is very segnificant. So therfore the choice came to the 150 hp one. As I have learned afterwords is that the 150, 175 and 200 hp is exactly the same engien.
The horsepower difference must be in the ECU..
Since there is no weight difference and so on..

So the big question is:
Is there possible to get hold on a ECU for the 200 hp E-tec? Anybody heard of someone doing this?? I know there will probalby a waranty question.. But if you keep the old ECU and swap when it's time for service and so on...

Any thoughts??

The ECU is probably not the only difference, shark.

BRP isn't going to reveal what the differences are, other than HP rating and price.

Just because displacement is the same does not mean there are no other changes. Porting, exhaust and intake tuning, injector sizes, are just a few of the items that can affect power output. Every manufacturer generally has two, three, or even four engines with four different HP ratings from the same displacement.

Ok..:)

I'm a bit newbie on two stroke engiens.. And it seems fair what you are saying. the thing that made me think of the ecu, was that all measurements of the different engiens (150-175-200) it's NO difference at all.. The only thing that is different is that the peak-power is on a higher rpm..

Thanks anyway for your answers;)

". . .peak power was on a different rpm. . ."

That suggests that port timing is different, shark.

Port timing works like cam timing in a 4 stroke. To get more hp, just move the torque peak up.

The only way to tell if the engines are "exactly the same" as you indicate is to take the time to go through the parts list for each. Start with the bare engine block part numbers. If they are the same, that says porting is probably the same. Oh goody you say! However, pistons may not be so they are the next to check. Then fuel injectors, cylinder heads, exhaust tuner, intake manifold, Air valve and body, and finally, the ECU which you can bet is different. And they are not inexspensive.
