Hi

After years of boating and having owned many outboards, inboards and boats in all guises....I find myself in ownership of a wee 4hp evinrude engine
This is the first time I've had an evinrude. They are not so widespread here in the uk as the usual yamaha and Mercury engines this size.
She is probably around 87-92 vintage and has the navy coloured hood with a neutral and presumably a clutch system for forward gear.
She is a little beaten up, but runs superbly and is super smooth, being a 2 pot. So unusual to have 2 cylinders on a wee engine this size...over here at least.
My questions are as follows;

1. What is the orange twist knob for under the hood. Looks as if it is something to do with flywheel..timing ?

2. The decals are all missing, but there is a knob missing from the front to the right of choke and to the left of the stop button. What would have been here and what is it for ? From other similar engines it looks like a lean/rich knob ? Is this just for controlling speed at idle or for gear selection ? Never seen this before.

3.What oil ratio should I be running ? I've not even been through a litre of fuel yet, but mixed at 50/1 to be safe ?

4. It has an internal fuel tank, but also a connection for a remote tank on the front. This I have seen before, but usually there is a change over valve to switch between. Does this have this or not ?

Thanks.

Put up a pic of the motor or as there are a couple of different versions of it give us a model #. 50-1 is fine for the gas mix.

This is from a Jhonsone engine but same model, different branding I think. You can see the hole on front to the right of the choke.
Also shows the orange twist knob under hood.

Knob on the left is the fuel shut-off/choke/primer, Middle my guess is you are missing the low speed mix adjustment knob. Far right is the safety switch.

Thanks flyin Scott.
What is the low speed mix for ? Just for idle speed or does it have another use ?
You mention the left is the fuel shut off/choke...i figures the choke is out and in action and the **** off is to the right ?
Any ideas on the adjustable knob under hood ?

No idea under the hood my guess is it is a fuel valve as timing would not easily adjustable. The low speed knob is for adjusting the carb at idle and low speed operation.

What about the change over from remote to integral tank ? Is there such a thing ?
I suppose I really need to have proper look at the thing.
Really quite impressed with the wee engine so far. Seem to be quite sought after too.

I don't know that much about those motors my 2.5 has an external tank that goes into the fuel connector. Find the model # and look at the parts breakdown. nope not scottish but I do like a good Scott

I believe that orange knob is a fuel shut off.Now that you will be using an evinrude everybody else will realize how good they are and want one too!
