Re: Evinrude ETEC 130 using Amsoil HPI oil

assuming the amsoil HPI is a high quality brand you can make one another test and report the results : run the boat on amsoil and the fill some xd100 and run again. you will find out the boat performs nor better neither worse than on the other. all other is a discussion when running on lean mode and having a warranty issue.

there are many myths about oils and this whole thread is pure speculation . when you want to have a serious research you must first have detailed technical data about the XD100 to find out what is so special in it. then you must have technical data about amsoil HPI to compare it .

the whole thing makes only sense when you run the lean mode and the amsoil is much cheaper than xd100 because when not simply fill in xd100, an oil which is approved and proven to work very good in evinrudes direct injected engines.

one interesting question would be : does bombardier produce xd100 by its own or if it is bought by a oil producer and bottled with the evinrude logo?

Re: Evinrude ETEC 130 Performance

Re: Evinrude ETEC 130 Performance

All Amsoil marine lubrication products have the TCW3 logo where and when appropriate and that includes the HPI product ... My understanding was that a company had to conduct the test using a given product in order to display the logo on a that product

The National Marine Manufacturers Association ( NMMA ) is the governing body for the TC-W3 certification. They are the ones that allow the use of the NMMA logo and the TC-W3 certification number on the oil containers. They also publish an annual listing of NMMA approved TC-W3 oils on their website. Check out the company names and look to see if Amsoil is listed. You can also call NMMA and ask if Amsoil is a certified oil. You should also call Amsoil and ask if they have an NMMA oil certification number for TC-W3.

You will find out the truth very quickly, and also how words are munipulated in advertising to appear that a product is not really what it attempts to say it is.

Check out the NMMA website on oil certification names: http://www.nmma.org/certification/certification/oil/tc-w3.aspx

I don't believe that this is a list of every TC-W3 certified two-stroke oil. I think that this is a list of newly certified oils for the year 2011. It can include re-formulated oils that were resubmitted. There are many hundreds or thousands of certified TC-W3 oils out there. I have lists from other years that have oils not on this web list. For instance Johnson Evinrude Two cycle oil has a registration number of RL-00441K, but is not on the 2011 web list.
I do reserve the right to be totally wrong on this!

It doesn't need to be for them to recommend it for their E-tecs, they can recommend any oil they wish too.

Evinrude makes the XD-100 oil specifically for their own motors and recommends its use as printed in the owners manuals. It is not marketed for other makes of outboards, thus does not need the TC-W3 certification.

No Amsoil? Hard to believe. So do any Outboard Manufacturers recommend Amsoil, or does just Amsoil recommend Amsoil?

Outboard motor manufacturers routinely recommend ANY TCW-III-certified 2 Cycle oil, but it appears that none recommend Amsoil. What a pity....
