EVINRUDE FICHT MISSING

I have a nightmare with a 1999 200hp Evinrude ficht motor. The motor ran like a clock until the day of the recall for possible injector leak problems. Ever since the recall ( 2yrs this month), I have got a miss or hicup at cruising speeds (4000-5ooo rpm). They have replaced the computer, 3 injectors, checked compression, fuel system, throttle sensors but the hicup is still here. The motor even has a different sound while running. It almost sounds like a noticeable knock from lower motor. I have spent close to $1100 and lost vacation days trying to solve this. I have lost all confidence in the motor, scared it will leave me. Thanks for any help.

1999 Ficht V6 engines are Frankenstein's monsters.<br /><br />The only reliable fix that I know of is to unbolt the boat and bolt it onto a different engine (NOT another OMC made Ficht V6).<br /><br />Sorry. Good luck.

Hey Cerf, how often does this miss occur? Did at any time the check engine light come on, with any service codes? How does it run below 4000 rpm?

J CLARKE,<br /><br />The check engine light does not come on & no codes. It does not seem to happen below 4000, or it is not noticeable. It is fairly consistant, about every minute or so.

The '99 200-225 were the first of the "thunder" blocks and do not have the FICHT Ram techology that came out the following year. The computer "mapping" is a little less precise than the later models. Because of that, the "transition effect" varies depending on the application and the propping of the boat. Chances are your motor is propped around 5500 rpm or so. If you reprop to top out about 6000 (or 6100 in cool weather), you may see your rough range disappear. Most of the time, that's all that is needed.
