Evinrude rewire help

I have a 1962 Evinrude Lark 40 HP manual shift outboard motor that runs well, but the wiring in the boat is a rats nest. I was wondering how to rewire so that I just have the bare minimum things, like start, lights and horn. The motor does not have tilt or trim, but is electric start. The wiring harness from the motor looks original and intact. I just need to know what to hook up from there to the dash. Any help is greatly appreciated.

If you want just the basics, Silvertip has a diagram that should work for you. Do a search, it should pop up. Tashasdaddy can link you to it.

If you need a more complete wiring diagram, PM me with you e-mail address and I'll attach it to a reply.

I have that same type of box as well , is it a relay box of some kind? I have a red and black wire grouped together coming from that box, does that go to the battery? There is also a large group of wires coming from that box with red blue green white and black wires in it, any idea what that is? ty Also where does the green wire go to after, does it hook up to the battery as well?

Tashasdaddy - no, the wiring box/thing that I have is not like that at all. Mine is much smaller and looks like a bad replacement of whatever was supposed to be there. I'll attach pics. I think perhaps I should do it right as this looks rough.

Re: Evinrude rewire help

The starting box on that outboard contained the starter solenoid, some glass fuses, a mechanical voltage regulator for the generator and some connections for the overheat sensor. You could make one with a piece of 6X6 plywood a Ford-type starter solenoid, some inline fuses etc.

Re: Evinrude rewire help

Thanks for the reply. Let's assume for the sake of this discussion that I was not exactly sure of what I needed to get to make my own box and hook it up correctly. I hope I'm not being a pain, but what do I need to buy and where should I get it? I would really like to do this right and have remote starting, temperature warning, lights and horn. Thanks.

Raracah, did you ever get that list or come up with your own you could provide. I have a 75 Silverlie Kodiak 17T w/ 115 Evenrude that all of this wiring station was ripped out.
