I have a evinrude 60hp 3cyl 1995.
Model no BE60TLEOC

Not had the engine very long, so far it runs like a dream.

I Just got the original tacho and a few other bits from the owner who said it all works ok.

I cannot fire the engine up at the moment due to not being near a water supply.

When i turn on the ignition i dont see any movement in the tacho ? it dont even go to zero it
just stays pretty much at the bottom. Is this normal ?

The battery is well charged up and there is plenty of power to the engine.
the electric fuel enrichment works with a nice loud click, the power trim goes up and down as well
so its not low on power ar anything like that.

I do NOT hear any warning bleep from the remote box neither, but been told on another posting that this
could be due a failed/broken warning horn ?

Do the tacho's on these engines not do anything at all untill the engine is running ? or should it move a touch ?

By the way I have disconnected the wiring for the VRO would this cause any problems ?

advice on this would be good.

Re: Evinrude tacho ????

The horn not working could also be a broken or disconnected wire. Most tachs will jump when you key on to the 0 position, however, simply pull the laynard and crank the engine and watch the tach. Does it move? Yes. It is working, may not work at all speeds, but is getting a signal and power. No. Most likely it is shot. No on the oil, as long as you have disconnected the wiring from the oil pump, actually the connection to the oil pump. If you haven't you will get a "no oil" warning.

Re: Evinrude tacho ????

The vro is definitely disconnected as far as wires go, and ive plugged the oil-in pipe.
Ill give it a go at cranking speed like suggested and make sure i have kill switch pulled..

is there anywhere on the engine i can check for tacho wires working etc ?
or any fuses on engine that could need re-newing or cleaning up ?

Also im a bit confused with the power trim guage wires !! i have two wires 1 with black wire with white stripe and
one is white i think.
Is there a need for a positive as well for this to work ? i am going to be wiring it up to a mercury trim guage.
(not got omc trim guage ,but this merc one is new, ive lost the wiring diagram ).
