Hi guys, 79 evinrude 115. Yesterday i was running a compression test on the engine, because i could not get the engine to go above 3000 rpm's, and i found a broken wire that was leading to the port side powerpack. I repaired the wire, and now i've got spark on the top cylinder port side, but it's very weak. It will however jump a 7/16" gap, but it's very thin. As the engine has been sitting for roughly a year and a half without being ran it could be anything. any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated. There is no change in the way the engine runs when i pull that plug.

Remove and clean all of the coil grounds. Oxidation will affect coil performance.

Re: evinrude weak spark

Check stator resistance and flywheel magnets? Can you swap powerpacks to see if it's the culprit? Also can you swap coils to eliminate them as the issue? That pretty much will find the ignition issue. Good luck
