I was reading up on bellows replacement and ran across an article on
page 4b-6 of the mercruiser service manual #6.
exhaust tube VS exhaust belows, they made mention of the IMR drive, and we just have the MR drive.
But what caught my eye was that it mention excessive back preasure and a "loss of performance" if you use the older bellows instead of the new exhaust tube.
Should we just do away with the bellows contacting the drive????

The tube is great if you want more noise and black soot on yer transom....I like the bellows.

Only if your carb is out of whack. I have a friend with a tube and he doesn't experience this at all.

And your in Arizona, where no choke is needed, up here we get soot from cold starts.

Do you have a drive-shaft extension on your boat? They're not too common on anything I'm familiar with.

If you don't have a drive shaft extension, don't worry about it. If you do, use a tube.

guys-
My point is/was that I just have a MR drive, and if there is an issue of lost "power" by using a exhaust bellows instead of the tube.
The old tub needs all the help it can get!!! :)

First off yes, I am talking a different drive here yet the workings are the same..

I have a VP DP drive that does not have exhaust bellows rather just a short "tube." The engine/exhaust note is a bit throatier/louder yet supposedly does give you more power. I don't get any soot on the drive/boat. Factory installed / OEM tube etc.
