Re: Experience with "marine superstore"?

Mako240, warranty service does not a REAL customer make, when a shop is backed up with several weeks of repair work AND the customer bought the motor elsewhere. A dealer will understand the case where a customer has moved into the area as opposed to the one who travelled a bunch of hours to save a few bucks. By the way, most dealers are willing to negotiate on price and the lowest "price" isn't always the lowest when service is considered. A good dealer will not give up on the most difficult problems, while the bottom of the heap only work the easy ones. I'm sure you've seen this with car repairs, etc.

Wildeone, I agree 100% that the lowest price on service can be a wolf in sheeps clothing. I agree it would be in the best interest to anybody to talk to the local dealer first and see what can be worked out. Because it is after an outboard is sold that the important things start, mainly service after the sale. If everything were equal as far as installation of the motor, setting it up properly, going over every aspect of the motor to make sure the buyer understands all the bells and whistles, and the do's and dont's versus picking up a motor in a crate and having to pay someone else to do the above mentioned then that would narrow everything down. A few bucks to me is the differnce in a $15-20 dollar part. I have been known to pay more just because of the type of service I get from a dealer outside of a sale.<br />If all things are equal and a man can actually save 2-3k by driving a few hours than I believe anyone would do that. But as I stated I would first talk with the local dealer because chances are that is the person you will deal with after the purchase, during and after warranty. Because it is after the warranty where the REAL customers are made because then they come to you because they WANT to, not because you do warranty work on their brand of motor. ;)
