I have a 2008 EZ Loader aluminum trailer that gets quite a bit of use in Florida lakes but hasn't seen salt water. One of the bunks has rotted out from the inside in just three years of use from new. Shouldn't the wood be treated to at least withstand 5 years of use or better? I need to replace both bunks since the warranty from EZ-Loader only lasts for 2 years from purchase. How many years have y'all gotten out of carpet covered wooden bunks in lake water?

We do a lot of boating so the trailer has had a lot of "dunk" cycles during the three years we've had it. I'd guesstimate at least 250-300 times since we are out on the water a lot.

Is it stored outoors? You get alot of rain down there in Florida and it's pretty humid so they me be damp most of the time. Still, 3 years seems a little on the short side.

Re: EZ-Loader Bunks Rotted

I have a 2007 EZ loader aluminum trailer that came with my boat. I bought the boat new in Tampa area in 2009 the dealer didn't have a trailer for the boat and threw it in to close the deal on a left over 2008 boat. I just replaced the bunks due to rot which I thought was quick. my last boat had an EZ loader trailer and I never had to replace the bunks and I owned it for over 9 years. Wondering also. the wood appeared to be treated wood that I removed. It didn't take very long once I got the carpet on the bunks. Good luck.

Re: EZ-Loader Bunks Rotted

My 1964 vintage Gator had keel rollers and 2 side bunks. I recarpeted them once, before I sold it in 2005. So those bunks lasted 41 years, and for all I know they may still be on the trailer.

All fresh water use, and stored outside most of its lifetime.

I guess they built them better back in the day!

Re: EZ-Loader Bunks Rotted

Both bunks look like they were made from 2x6 treated lumber wrapped in marine grade carpet. Just thought they'd last longer than three years since EZ-Loader warranties their stuff for two years... good to know. I need to start backing out the bracket screws holding up the bunks so they don't penetrate my hull before I get a chance to replace the bunks. The rotting wood has compressed from the weight of the boat. Going to be an interesting couple of weeks fixing this one. Any suggestions???
