Re: Fancywork on boats/wheels
I gotta be honest - there's no needle hitching here...

#3: First, I wrapped the bare aluminum buttstock with friction tape. Then I laid strands of tarred netline (I think size #36 or so) parallel to each other on the buttstock, and seized them middled with a constrictor knot. I then angled them parallel at about 45 degrees, and when I got to the reel seat, seized with another constrictor. I did the same thing towards the bottom end, and then applied turksheads over the seizings. On the bottom turkshead I smeared a little Goop adhesive to seal & protect the lower edges.

#4: Again I wrapped with friction tape. Started off french hitching up with #20 tarred netline, then decided I didn't like it, so I simply served over it, & applied turksheads over the seizings. Then I took strands of #60 tarred netline, & Laid them parallel with #60 spacers (2-3inch pieces), Seized it, then pulled the spacers. Then I wrapped that with friction tape & did it again, because I wanted a fat grip, but also wanted to go up onto the narrower fiberglass as well. Then I just walled up from there. Then I got to the end of the aluminum, I finished off with a Matthew Walker knot, and went back to walling up with the next set of strands, also finishing with a MW knot. This can best be seen in pic#1.

You can click on the pictures for a full size view, too.

All this does add more weight than is necessary to the rod, but I'm not about to do it over!

I'll take some pics later in the day & send them out.

Glad you like it!
