I'm just wondering what some of your favorite boating destinations are! Tell us why and include a picture or two!

Welcome: You forgot to add bays. Ocean: because bigger schools of bigger fish - salt air, less polution, more adventure!

My favorite place to boat is Flaming Gorge, its located in Northern Utah/ Southern Wyoming. I love this lake because it is huge!! You can be in a bay and see 10 other boats, drive down the channel for 10 minutes and be all by yourself! The scenery is also incredible, you can go from grassy rolling hills to red rock cliffs in 15 minutes, in another 15 minutes you will be looking at grey granite mountains. It's one of my favorite summer destinations, I go every year multiple times and would never miss an opportunity to be there!!

We prefer lakes, although I guess a large bay would fit the bill. We enjoy finding just the right secluded cove where we can relax, get some sun, have a picnic lunch, take an occassional dip, and not be bothered by others gawking, and jet skiers stirring up the water.

River – Not limited to a small area, typically larger fish than a lake, Easy to fish from shore, the view changes, and more camping spots. Only bummer is the Asian carp are just now starting to make their way up here… it just might be one of the last years up here for decent fishing.

Little St. George Island, FL. It is an uninhabited island about five miles from the mainland, accessible only by boat. Created in the mid 50's when the Corps dredge a cut for the shrimpers.

The lighthouse became an "island" of it's own as erosion finally caused it to collapse. It was salvaged and rebuilt in the center of St. George Island

+1. Coastal Richard, but I'm biased ;) Here's a pic of some pretty freshwater you can find all over FL too. Best of all, you can start in the clear and boat all the way to the beach/lighthouse and back in one trip.

Wow I wish we had clear blue water like that here; we have some pretty clear streams up in the Wasatch Mountains, but nothing like that! Thanks for the post! :D

That clear blue water in FL is amazing!

I grew up on the Finger Lakes in NY so I'm partial to lakes. Now I live down by the Delaware River north of Philly & I find I need a whole new understanding of water to be on the river. It feels very different (maybe it's just in my head).

Sadly the lakes in SE PA just don't compare to the Finger Lakes :(

We also have plenty of days when the water looks like chocolate milk as the winds churn up the shallow bay mud, etc.

PS...somebody's gonna have to teach me how to reply to more than one post in a "reply with quote"

Being from the parched land of West Texas, I'll take any of them!
The Caribbean waters sure are pretty, though.

Click the "+ button in the bottom right of the posts you want to quote, then go to the +Reply to Thread button at the lower left of the thread, as usual.
Then you can plug your responses in between the seperate quotes.

My favorite destination is the next one.....wherever that may be. For me...Half of the fun is the adventure of getting there.

If I had to pick a favorite spot, I think it would be amongst the coral heads in the Turks and Caicos, hunting lobster with friends.

Re: Favorite Boating Destinations

humina, humina, humina!!!! Whaaaa!!! I don't think I've ever used 800 in gallons in all of my boats in all of my life. I thought going through 6 gallons in a day was bad until I heard my neighbor spends about $400-$500 on gas, but $4k! Gadzooks!
