Re: wow!

It's funny how we all have the "Dooooohhhh" moment and then it all comes together. You're on your way to being a true "Glasser" Glad the "Light Bulb" finally came on. Guess I could've been a little more precise in talking about the amount of pressure and use of the Bubble Buster, but you figured it out and that's all that's important.

Keep going and you'll be done before you know it.

Re: now with pics!

taking a little break today. wanna keep glassin the first two pieces but need to template and trim the other two to fit. they all need to be installed on the same day. a little water seeps through the cover when it rains (couple ounces). set them all on the same day and i'll know there is no water under the deck. gotta go get more resin and some pl and more little foam rollers.

if anybody has a fujifilm finepix s700 digital camera and knows how to only save new images to the pc, please enlighten me. i'd post way more pics if it wasn't such a pain...takes hours. half an hour just to get 'em off the camera then i gotta delete nearly 600 doubles.

Re: fiberglass relic restoration

didn't touch a drop of resin this weekend. cut deck pieces 3 & 4, trimmed the bulkhead to fit, worked on the transom drain tube, wrapped up loose ends, got buckets ready, made a supply list and cleaned up. all wood is cut to fit. its all downhill from here. layup the deck and install it. there's more after that but i aint looking that far ahead...two seat stands/battery covers...livewell...baitwell...

templating, cutting done. low on supplies...one roller and less than a gallon of resin. all 4 deck pieces primed, one piece csm'd both sides, one piece csm'd one side. 60 sq ft to install, 60 sq-2nd layer after install.

one more question...

one more question...

have to repair stripped threads on two lower unit bolts. planned on using ss heli-coils. i was told ss and aluminum don't like each other. then i was told it would take years for the two metals to have an effect on each other. i'm not opposed to replacing the bolts every few years. should i proceed or re-machine for os bolts?

I would not recommend trying or using it.

Again, not recommended. Just use PB

SS should be fine. If it's not a saltwater boat.

Re: one more question...

thanks again...you always seem to chime in at just the right time. i'll omit the foam. yes i'm in saltwater and (soon to be) moored to the dock. if I had to trailer it, i might risk it but it'll be sitting in the water 24/7. foam would never have a chance to dry.
i've discussed the stripped thread issue with alot of people and heli-coil or not, i still have ss bolts going into aluminum. i do want to use stainless steel bolts for the lower unit, right?

Re: one more question...

Yep, SS is what you need. Just make sure to Winterize her correctly and do a Fresh Water flush. Will you be pulling her out of the water during the off season, or do you have an off season??

Re: one more question...

Sanibel Island florida...off season is the three weeks a year it gets below 40 degrees. on the other side of my canal there is a boat ramp with hoses and such to flush her then i have to go with the trolling motor 200 feet to my dock. at high tide i'm saltwater, at low tide its brackish leaning toward fresh. others have lifts...i just have 80 feet of seawall and a small dock. keeping the hull clean will be murder. i'll post pics of the flow-trol bucket thats been tied up for a year. barnicles galore.

Re: progress...

no tropical storms on the horizon :)
nasty weather, no room in garage. between t'storms i got third deck piece layed up on both sides fourth (bow) piece on one side. have about 11 cf of white foam.not putting it in boat. have wifey buying pool noodles.
daughter came to visit, spent one night at an old friends house. got bitten by brown recluse. got out of hospital yesterday. she's ok, could've been worse. wifey had to pick up grandson in miami til daughter got out of hospital. changed steering gear box three months ago. ruined the alignment, ate a new pair of 60k mi tires. got new tires, elect fuel pump on the fritz. my water pump went a couple weeks back. not planning on skydiving or buying lotto tickets anytime soon.
am going to buy extra memory card for camera to fix my pic posting problem. might post a few in a week or so. boat on back burner for now :(

Re: fiberglass relic restoration

I can relate to how Life always seems to get in the way of hobbies. I been trying to finish the "Little Details" so I can launch for a Month and still no progress. Oh well there's always next year.:p

Re: fiberglass relic restoration

or next month...looks like no rain for me for 10 days so...fix the car...layup 20sq ft...shave a couple spots to level the stringers...cap the bare spots...install the transom drain tube...pl the deck in...tabb it...last 60 sq ft of layup...prep and install the livewell and bait well...two more drain tubes...prep and install the seat stands/battery covers...fix some stripped threads...pressure test the lower unit...fix the leak (milk ilo oil)...re-install the lubed steering cable...drop in the battery...fix or replace the float switch for the bilge pump and pray the trailer (scroll back and look at it!) makes it to the ramp intact to launch by halloween if i'm lucky.
