How it going?

I have a couple questions regarding my 2000 Ficht 75. Yesterday I was out fishing, having a good time till my outboard started hesitating/bucking and then the check engine light came on. After I turned the outboard off and started it back up the check engine light was off and did not come back on for the rest of the trip. The outboard was however sluggish and was still hesitating. I just had my 20 hour service and during that service they also decarboned the engine and said everything was alright. Going back over my service record it said that they checked the plugs during the 20 hour check and they were good but they did not replace them. Could it be the plugs? Even though the check engine light went off is there a code still stored in the memory? Can I take this to any evinrude dealer for warranty work? I like my dealer, however there is a dealer right down the street from my house that is very reputable as well.

Thanks and have a great week!
Ficht Guy

Take it back to your dealer, let him know what happened and have him hook it up to a laptop and figure out what the code is to take appropriate action.

Bear in mind that if your warranty period is up it will cost you some money to get this done.

Thanks for the reply. The warranty started in April. It was a left over 2000 new in the box and I believe it is a 2 year warranty. Any ideas what the problem with the outboard might be?

Thanks

No idea what it might be, and besides your on warranty. Don't sweat it take it in and let the dealer worry about it.

Re: Ficht 75

Can I pull the plugs out to see if they are good? I heard something about them being indexed or pinned or something. Can I just replace the plugs like I did on my old 77' 75 HP Evinrude?

Thanks

Re: Ficht 75

The 2 engines you are comparing are worlds apart in technology !

Have you consulted your owner's manual?

It should contain some info on plug replacement, and guidelines to follow for gapping and tightness. Problem is you don't know if that's what's causing the misfire or whatever.

Experiment if you want, but don't void your warranty while you're at it.

I wouldn't touch anything. Take it in and let the dealer deal with it. The plugs have to be indexed.

c/6

Hooty

Re: Ficht 75

plugs have to be indexed refer to fitch service manual before atempting to do plugs and if the check eng lite came on it should have stored a code again the fitch service manual will tell you how to retrive codes with the system check gauge but you are always better off tacking back to the dealer and have the laptop pluged in IF THEY HAVE A FITCH TRAINED TECH WITH EXPERIENCE!!
