Well got the new part for the furnace and ofcourse found it needed another part. I should of bought a new furnace. If i bought a new furnace that means less money to put into the boat. So ill fix this one.

Yes finally got the furnace fixed and ready to go. Of course today was pretty warm so I didnt need it. I am continuing to strip the paint and taking more patience in doing so. I am working on the sides and the paint dosnt seem to be coming of as easy but still coming off. more work on the boat tomorrow.

I'm keeping an eye on your stripping saga, that's where I'll be first thing next spring. Glad you'll have a place to work inside over the winter, it's sheer torture to see the boat sit outside over the winter all wrapped up, calling to me! I still haven't fully decided about stripping clean vs. applying over the old paint. Is that an oil or gas furnace you're working on?

Still stripping paint. Not alot of time right now cause I am knee deep... well deeper than that in boat work right now. I am researching putting a permanent fuel tank in this boat. Since it will be on a trailer all the time its not in the water it would be easier to have one. Im looking at possibly going with the old reinell style by adding one under the bow cover, suspended from the bracing and running the fuel fill line and vent up there as well. I will be adding some sturdier bracing under the bow cover. Has any one tried it and what will be the pros and cons for doing so?

Hey Jim you can check EZs thread as he put a tank in the bow but it was on the deck and removeable. I was thinking about under the bow cap also so am trying to decide how to attach it.

Thanks v8 I will check it out. I am really leaning to a permanent tank. I don't wamt to have to jump in and out of the boat to be moving the tank to fill it. Also with the tank mounted under the bow cap I could put in a larger tank.

Little side note. Should I buy this thing or not. I can get it for $200.00.

I think I should but dont know. I have to buy a motor for the current project and also a new hunting rifle because its my daughters first year hunting. Moneys a little tight but doable.

Is it worth the trouble. It is a starcraft and looks like a jupiter. I havnt even looked at this boat yet.

What would you want it for as it's pretty much the same as your current project?

A 16' Jupiter would make a nice CC river boat if properly modified:D

For $200 you really can't go wrong on that one. Keep it as a boat to test motors on before you sell them maybe?:)

I'd be all over that if it weren't a 1200 mile round trip, rats. Prolly cost me twice that in fuel.

Can always be your "back up" boat eh!:D

I'd jump on that one, too. I've never worked on a Bearcat, but if it has spark, compression, etc...why not? Worse case scenario is maybe have to part it out. Either way, you could probably sell the refurbished boat and trailer for what you pay for that new rifle for the kiddo, if it comes to that. Good luck...you are making good progress.

Im jumping on it. I will be picking it up next Friday. It will be another project. I have alot of people interested locally in my resto project and asked me how much Ill sell her for after its done. Maybe a way to spread out business wise. At least a way to let wife no who really owns the shop ;)

Wait, hang on. Who does own the shop???:confused:

See in my world, whats mine is hers and whats hers is hers.

Maybe you have a different set up though.:D

My wife does not go in the shop because she says its to smelly in there. She hates the smell of gearcase oil. Makes the shop all mine!!! You guys know that it is a scientific fact that women have a stronger sense of smell then men do. So if your wives think your shops are theirs then keep a couple of dead skunks around and they will never venture out there. ;)

Re: Finally an old tinny that I can work on with my daughter

My shop is also my garage. I am lucky to have the size garage that I have. I also have a large machine shed for storing all the projects and spare part donars. Since my garage doubles as my shop and its making some money my wife lets me alone about it. She gets the rest of the house (around 3500 sqft). I have had many opportunities to either rent or buy outright shops in my area but to keep cost down and be able to truly work for my self instead of the bank or landlord ive chosen to stay put. It has worked well. Considering I started from a small garage that could hardly hold a compact car, Ive grown to where I am comfortable with the amount of business I have.

The new boat will be here next Friday! I wont start that project untill this one is done. I think it would be cool to have a work boat for towing and getting to the many boats I work on on the water. There are 96 lakes in our town alone here. I work alot on the water and it would be nice to outfit a boat to serve that purpose instead of halling tools and such up and down the hills to the dock, I could just motor up to it. Just a thought.

The current project is coming along I hope to have the hull stripped by the end of the weekend and I will be ordering primer and paint on Monday.

Sounds like your biz is going well Jim, excellent!

I think that second rig would be sweet as a utility/work rig. Hey, the price is right! Toss a tiller on it, put your name/nmber on the side, throw in the tools, perfect!

Have fun!:D
