Yea, I know. I will be winterizing my I/O around the same time. The fishing boat will stay out as long as there is open water, though. Thats one advantage to fishing rivers, sometimes the season doesn't end until mid-January. :)

FYI, I received my fix from Humminbird today. it is a rubber plug that goes in the gap between the mount and transducer. They also included a MHX XNT transom hardware kit. Given my current is mounted on the boat three hours away, I can not confirm any differences in this H/W. offhand, it looks the same.

Is it just a matter of calling Humminbird to get the updated parts?
Mine has had the electrical tape fix all year...

Yes just call and ask to be put on the list. They will ask if you are sure your ducer isnt set too deep. Just say no and that there are discussions on the SI boards and this one. (SI board is Side Imiging)

I did it via email to customer service. I received email about back-order, and was surprised to see it so quick.

Mine was via their customer service section on their website which in turn I received an email on it back from them. Hopefully I'll see mine really soon too.

Supposedly if you contact humminbird about the rooster tail problem they will ship you a new bracket with a rubber plug to stop the rooster tail...it just came out.

Additional FYI on ordering (purchasing) accesories from Humminbird:

This late spring / early summer, I ordered a number of accesories to go with my existing mounts and new 797. I placed the order via their online store. After delays in my order, I contacted Humminbird. What I found out was that the online orders are sent out in a reverse auction to certain venders. Most of the time, there will be a low bidder who wins and fulfils the order. In my case, no one bidded and fell through the cracks. Humminbird filled the order promptly, after the phone call. This process is also deceiving because you do not get accurate "in stock" status. My understanding is that if you do a phone order vs online, it is filled directly by Humminbird. My recommendation would be to go that route.

I always call in. They have good response time and are relatively quick shipping orders. I lost a transducer once and they had me a new one within two days.

Glad to hear it worked. I got mine today. Simple rubber plug design.

They also shipped me an entirely new transducer mounting bracket kit.

Import, did you have to change your bracket or is the plug pretty much universal?

Looking forward to trying it this weekend.

The mounting bracket that came with the plug looked like the same as what was on my boat, so didn't switch it.

Thanks. Much like you my boat is an hour away but the mounting kit looks pretty much the same as mine from memory.

Re: Finally got new Humminbird 575 installed - transducer spray :(

My response from Humminbird CS was this:

We have a solution which was just recently approved after testing. We do
not yet have a delivery date on when the items will be in stock but we will
be happy to put you on a waiting list for the item. (This could be as long
as 10-12 weeks before we have the items in stock) Your order number for
this kit is . . . .

My guess is it's the rubber plug that some others have received. At least that solution won't impede the pop up feature of the bracket if I hit something.

I don't like that splash guard solution or it's looks. Seems to me they should come up with a design flaw solution, rather than a guard that just diverts the spray.

I too have the SI model.

At almost $200 a pop for a SI transducer, I don't think they will be rolling out a "free" design upgrade for that. ;) The rubber plug works. It is a slight pain for me since I take the transducer home with me, to use in a portable set-up when the boat is up north. Just another small part, along with the side discs, washer and wingnut I can drop and loose. Not a big deal and most people don't do what I do. :)

Re: Finally got new Humminbird 575 installed - transducer spray :(

Thx John
I just feel they should redesign the bracket not as much the transducer. The poster who cut out the metal piece that goes below the bracket seemed like a cheap and workable solution to me.

I spent $999 for mine and for that kind of money I don't think I should have to be solving this spray issue myself or pulling out the tin snips.

Humminbird really has their heads up their @sses on this one because just think of all the sales they are losing just from the people who read complaints on the various boating forums.

I personally, since they have dragged their heels on a solution and the fact they refused to admit to me that there was even a problem, even though many of us had already called and complained about the same issue . . . probably would never buy another Humminbird product again.

If this unit is ever stolen or broken I'm going with Garmin next time around. I'm also in the market for a 2nd boat, a 24 footer it will be outfitted with the Garmin combo GPS system with an 8 inch screen because I'll have more dash space. Those units are around $2500.

If it's ever stolen, I'll send you a "for sale" PM cause I won't need the transducer anymore :)

Well, I certainly feel different about Humminbird than you. I do feel I have gotten decent support. I do see tech reps from Humminbird helping user on Yahoo groups and other bulletin boards. I can't say I have seen that for Lowrance/Eagle. I have never looked at Garmin for depth/fishfinders.

BTW, I love the SI for finding unique structure. As far as I know, no other mfg has consumer units in this price range.

Try calling Lowrance and see how many days it takes to get through.
