I adjusted my transducer down and carefully set the level by referencing the scum line on the transom. It still throws some water but the spray is totally rearward. We don't even get mist in the stern area of the boat with the top up. The sonar results appear to be just as good as before I moved the transducer. Wrapping electrical tape around the mounting bracket as mentioned in this thread helped reduce the spray but the transducer adjustment was the solution.
I was surprised with the results and glad to be able to share somde good news. I am using a Lowrance Lcx 27c with the standard transducer.

wonderful idea to say the least simple but very effective . is there any chance you would have the template or maybe the measurements that would be extremely helpful to me since im not to good at guessing things ..that might be to much to ask if so please disregard request... i have my metal and about to attempt one of these .. thanks again for sharing your idea ..:D
