I finally got my factory service manual for the 1975 Johnson 6 and its great. Now I still need to fix the sputtering problem. Once I run for about 15 minutes its starts sputtering real bad and only gets worse. I just had the carb off and cleaned it, checked all the passages and its like brand new. I did notice that one of the nuts that holds it on was not even finger tight but when I put it back on I made a custom wrench and put a lock washer on it and snugged it up good. Although that didn't fix the sputter I figured it can't hurt. Only other thing I've done as of yet is pull the spark plugs and noticed something, the plugs (Champion J6C at .030) have a little screw on thing (not sure what it's called) that actually makes contact under the boot of the spark plug wire. Well the one on the lower cylinder was loose, could that have something to do with my sputter? I'm going to go ahead and get new plugs and try it but I was just wondering if anyone else has seen this problem before? Especially before I go tearing the flywheel off (something I've never done before).
Thanks
