Nice job Kevin. How'd you prep the block before you painted it?

I just sanded, sanded, and then sanded some more. Then cleaned it with acetone for about two hours and put about five coats of "Ford red" block paint on it. All of the black is a combination of block paint (exaust manafold) and epoxy enamel.

Make sure you prime the oil through the motor before you start it. Looks great!

How do you do that, Bob?

Usually it's done by turning the oil pump manually with the distributor removed. But on that Volvo motor, I don't know if the oil pump is driven off the cam/distributor drive. I think that motor is OHC.

Check a service manual to be sure how to do it.

Leave the fuel disconnected, remove the plugs and crank it for a minute to get the oil through the system. Most motors as Mark had mentioned you can remove the distributer and use a spare shaft (if you have one) to turn the oil pump.

Additionally, people used to put vasaline in the oil pump before assembly completion.

You just want to make sure everything is properly coated for the first start.

That engine came out great. You should be really proud of it. If it runs as good as it looks you'll have a heck of an engine.

I have to do the big "compression check" this weekend. I turns over very nicely by hand and gets pretty hard to turn on all of the compression strokes, so I'm hoping for the best....wish me luck.
