Re: plugs wet and pistions showing alot of carbon build up whats the cause?
fixing one thing after another and still have not got to the source of the main problem what could be causing this timing is right carbs are adjusted says my boat mec. or could he be off on it and new plugs running high octane gas with sea foam so any ideas ??? and still dieing when putting it in forward gear. and new fuel pump and all new line. when i pulled the plugs they are wet and black looking with crud on them i guess from the carbon breaking up ?
High octane gas in a low compression engine burns smoky and sooty. So does SeaFoam.
A little wet and a little dark is normal. If it gets too dry, it'll overheat and melt down a piston.
Try running ordinary gas, (going from 87 to 91 to avoid ethanol is OK) and ordinary oil, your choice, run it hard if it's happy doing that, but don't push it if it balks, somethings wrong. Then take another look.
The way to use SeaFoam is to mix up about a gallon of fuel (with oil if needed) in a pony tank, add a can of SeaFoam, and run it through the engine. Do it on the muffs. It's hard enough on the engine without trying to make power. Have spare plugs on hand, and be prepared to deal with angry neighbors if the wind is their way. I run most of it through, then kill the engine by spraying SeaFoam in the carbs. Then I let it sit for awhile. Then I fire it up on it's normal fuel, and clean it out. Usually I just put in a set of new plugs, but you can just replace any that fouled.
hope it helps
