I went back to the beginning of the thread to compare where you started to where you are today. Very different now and you've done a lot of hard work, Red.

So when does the thread title Change from Finnish Fishing Boat Overhaul to Finnished Fishing Boat Overhaul? :joyous:

All I can say Red is, it looks amazing. You have a knack for doing such work and the abilities to pull it off as well. I always enjoy seeing what you've done next. :thumb:

Thanks guys! I'm hoping to finish it by September hopefully. All my estimates this far have been far too optimistic, but this one seems doable. Will build most of February to the mid of March, and continue from the 15th of April full time.

Red,
Show/tell me more about your pilot house. I'm thinking of doing something like that on mine this summer. Looks like a reconstruction. If I missed it shoot me the page numbers. And yes the work looks great.

It's made for a different boat from approx the same year. My hull is a Kulkuri (=Wanderer) in Finnish and the pilothouse is from a planing hull Naviga. The factory still had the mold and glassed it for me(after a big chunk of money changed owner).

It's a bit too wide, the sides are very narrow and require some concentration while moving on. Still nothing worse than on some production boats.

Red - I had no idea you merged two boats, hull from one and the pilot house from another. I thought you were reworking the original boat and improving her. You have my admiration, :clap2::

It was quite the show lifting it in place back then. Had to cut open the tent and lift it a couple of inches at a time. There were five of us and we barely got it on top of the hull. And then started the painstaking process of cutting it in shape and defining heights etc. Glad that's over and done with :)

Very interesting to read about two different boats matted together. Just goes to show that there are no limitation other then your imagination. Bravo Red. :thumb:

Thanks Red,
I noticed the lines were different from 1st post till this post and as usual your workmanship intrigued me. Thanks for the info. When I put my mind to mine it won't be nearly as huge as yours but the concepts add to the final design.

No problem. I'm very glad I didn't stick with the original plan to build the pilothouse myself. I'd probably still be doing it and the chance of a DIY-look would have been much higher. I'll learn to live with the narrow sides.

As long as there's space to put one foot in front of the other and something to grab onto to access the bow you should be OK. The 'sidewalks' on my boat are only about 6 or 7 inches wide and I have no problem moving fore and aft along the sides of the house. Your boat is really coming together nicely!

Been distracted with work and other unimportant stuff, but now I'm back at it.

A photo of the aurora borealis from our skiing tour up north that was distracting but a lot of fun!

They're beautiful and make you feel really small and properly insignificant :)

Now I'll finish the starboard side molding and then starts the biggest glassing project this far. Still trying to figure out how to make these big boxes rigid enough to carry people sitting on them and so on.

Building these molds is a major pain btw, there are very few surfaces that come even remotely close to being straight or even or symmetrical. Each piece of melamine needs to be custom fitted, taped and attached without any hardware on the inside.

I can't even imagine how you make it look so perfect every time, but I do know somewhat of what you're saying. I seem to have to custom fit everything being how my tiny tinny little boat isn't going back together even remotely like original. So I know you must have a fit getting things to work out on that size boat.

Oh one other thing, those Northern Lights are amazing and eerily beautiful all in the same thought. Thanks for posting them. :thumb:
