What is the firing order on a 87 60hp Johnson motor? Which plug is #1 ? And can you hook an automotive timing light up to this motor to check the timing?

Top plug is #1 What is happening very seldom does timing ever go out on an outboard motor unless something catastrophic happens. It is not a good idea to mess with it.

Top plug is # 1 and firing order is 1,2,3. And yes, you can use an automotive timing light.

Thanks a lot for the info. My dad keeps saying the timing is off, so now I will check it to see if its right. I'm going to try the new power pack I ordered first.

The motor at fist would fall on its face when I'm About 1/4 throttle and I would hit the choke and it would take off good. Then it started fouling the plugs very easily.

Sounds more like your carbs give them a good cleaning and get rebuild kits for all 3, then do a link and sync.
