I think this is clymer based info, probably on par with the seloc manual you already have anyway.

Re: First Boat Project

Just found out that my last final is May 10th. The other owner goes to college in Montana, and he's done a bit earlier than me, but he is going to hang out a while so we can meet in Nevada and caravan back to California, so THEN we can get this boat ready and in the water!!!

Re: First Boat Project

So I found a new windshield for the boat, for only $50.

I saw it on the SF-Bay Area craigslist the night before I felt Colorado to come home. I called the guy telling him I would be back in town in a couple days and want to come get it. Life got in the way when I got back, but last night I was talking about it with a friend, and the next thing you know we are picking up the other owner and driving an hour south at 9:30 at night to go get this thing. We brought the old windshield with us to make sure it would fit. At first it seemed like the new one was to small, but then we realized that the old one had been bent. We haggled for an hour to get it for $50, took it home, and low and behold it fit perfectly!

It needs to be cleaned up and buffed but it?s in really good condition for its age, all the original hardware included. I took a picture of it when we placed it on the boat, but it was midnight and it was a cell phone camera, so it isn't great but you get the picture:

Yep, even w/ a late long drive & etc, definitely a bargain on a decent windshield, and that 1 looks perfect. Both in fit & condition! Congrats!

Haha, thanks guys. Does anyone know a good thread or link off the top of their head on restoring a plexi windshield like this?

Re: First Boat Project

So I'm back again. Here's a quick update:

Got her tuned up by a mechanic; he rebuilt the carb, put now points and fuel pump diaphragm in, replaced the pugs, and put the new impeller in. As soon as we got it back, we took her to a free launch on the delta. She ran great! Then we got some reeds stuck in the prop and broke the shear pin...

A quick fix and she was ready again. A group of friends and I took her camping at East Park Res. She was running great, really a sharp turner which made for some good tube pullin. I brought her back to shore to take another person out tubin when the guy camping next to us asked me if I wanted to try out his new Kawasaki 800SXI jet ski since he saw the stand up ski I also brought. I couldn't pass it up so I asked my friends (one of whom was the part owner) if they could take the boat out themselves. They said sure and I showed them how they had to put it in gear at the back of the boat on the motor since we were having issues with the remote shift cable. I told them to start it in N then put it into gear. When I come back from riding with my new friend, they tell me there was an issue.

They had started it in reverse with the nose of the boat facing away from shore, so they accidentally ran it into shore, backwards. They killed the motor as soon as they hit. I got in the boat. She started right up and got away from shore fine. After I had given her some more gas, the drive shaft just spun without the prop. I figured we had broke another shear pin, no big deal since now I had an extra. We trolled into shore, I puled the prop, but the shear pin was fine!

I took her out again. Power was being sent to the prop, as in it would spin, with a little gas, but as soon as much more gas was given, the shaft would spin alone.

I'm obviously going to post this in the appropriate forum, but I though you guys might like an update.

Re: First Boat Project

Sounds like you may have just spun the prop in the prop housing. This can be fixed if that's what happened. May want to get a spare prop for stuff like this so you don't stop a good weekend from continuing. Sounds like you are really enjoying the boat!!

Re: First Boat Project

You Might be able to find a local shop to rebuild that spun prop. Not many around anymore that mess with em but some still do.

Re: First Boat Project

The blades on the spun prop were pretty dinged up after it struck, so I had to get a whole new one. Only cost me $70 for a NOS prop, which I was more than okay with. Would definitely look into that if it had been a SS prop though!

Re: First Boat Project

So I got the new prop and put it on. Took her out today with my fingers crossed that all it was a spun prop hub....and it was! She started and ran fine. It did putter out once but I just re-primed it and that did the trick. Very happy to have a boat again for the summer! I've also been doing some more finishing touches on everything like rebuilding the trailer winch and re-wiring the lights, stuff that got overlooked the first (and second to be honest) time around. I still need to get the new windshield on as well and adjust/fix the remote gear shift. That trailer will also be getting some painting. My brother took a video with his phone so I'll post that when I get it from him.

Re: First Boat Project

I've put off posting this but here it is, a video of the boat on the water! This is her second fully successful run with no serious issues.
