I am looking for a first, very first sailboat to learn to sail. I am a physically strong woman - I don't want a boat beyond my abilities but I also don't want to grow out of it too fast either. I have been thinking of a Laser - is this a good choice?

Re: first boat

Probably a bit late for reply, but I just got here.

Laser is a good beginner's boat. . . if the wind's not fluky. Sunfish is a good one, too. It's bulletproof, and it might be easier to acquire/dispose of. Make sure the hull doesn't leak. If you want top-flight competition, Europe Dinghy is the women's Olympic class, but the boat's more expensive and finicky.

Things to consider, among others:
Do you want to take a crew or passenger?
Are there others in your area? (You learn quicker and the boat's easier to resell if there are).
How much do you want to spend?
Where will you sail from? . . dock, beach, bulhead?

I think a laser would be good for you it can be sailed with 1 or 2 people. It has a bigger sail but more exspensive. Laser LOA: 13'10" beam: 4'6" draft: 2'7" sail area: 76 sq ft. new $4,315

----------------

Bikeman
