Hey guys! i'm new here and I come with issues...

I own a 2004 Glastron SX195 with a VP 5.7l I/O and an SX drive. I have owned the boat since it was new, so I should be able to answer any questions you guys may have. So, on to my issue...

My boat won't start; I get the click from the starte, but nothing else. I went through Don S's troubleshooting, but I have questions. First off, I checked what I believe to be all of the grounds and I cleaned them up and gave them a coat of grease. I am getting around 12.7 V from the battery on my meter and that same at the starter where the positive cable attaches. I checked terminal B in the trouble shooting post (sorry, I don't know the name) and I got juice, but it looked to be only 4 V and some change. Is this sufficient? Do I have a bad solenoid? Is this something that is replaceable, or will I need a whole new starter.

Any help you can provide is appreciated, I still haven't been to the lake this season...

Re: First post, need help...

Sounds like a possible corroded terminal on the start relay, or a bad relay. Only some testing and checking will tell which.
What is your full engine model number, even a SN might help.

The relay didn't look corroded, but it may be bad. The engine is a 5.7 GL-E the p/n is 3869257 and the s/n is 4012106118...

If it looks clean, it's probably a faulty relay. no fuses in the start system. Except by the switch. but you wouldn't here a click at the engine either.

We are speaking of the relay on top of the engine? The one in the fuse box, correct??

Yes, the big square one in that box.

Should be 6 fuses, 1 small fuel pump relay, and one large square start relay.

Sweet bud, thanks for the help. I will pick one up tomorrow and report my results. By the way, I have been surfing the site a little and I have to say it is one of the few that are this helpful. Cheers!

Just an update. I got the new relay and installed it over the weekend. The engine still won't turn over. I am taking it in today to get it looked at because I have too much other stuff going on. I sure hope it gets done quick, I haven't been on the water yet this year...

Did you try tapping on the starter while you try and turn it over? Sometimes you will get a little corossion, causing brushes to lose contact.

Well, you got it back fast like you wanted anyway!

Care to share what they found to potentially help out any fellow boaters that may be researching this type of problem in the future?
