Fishing line deflector?

There is a spacer with an offset ridge in it and can't tell which way that goes and if the deflector ring should be on the drive side or prop side of that ridge? Is it supposed fit tight to something or move around loosely on the spacer?
Thanks

Re: Fishing line deflector?

On my 280 the Line cutter was welded to the spacer. It was all one piece. Unsure if yours is like that.
It goes behind the prop. Just over top of the zinc ring.

Re: Fishing line deflector?

So this is what I am working with. Looks like the previous owner tried to use jb weld or something to fit the ring onto the spacer. Does the ring normally stayed fixed on the ridge on its own? Thanks for the help this is all new to me.

Re: Fishing line deflector?

get a new line cutter. They aren't too expensive.
Which drive do you have? You can look up schematics online...
don s. has a sticky I think with some of the schematics and manuals......Look up the part number and order a new one.
"adults only" thread i think

I pulled the spacer out now and the prop still only pushes on as far as it does in the picture. Could the prop shaft be longer on mine?

Re: Fishing line deflector?

the spacer and line cutter should be "inside" the housing
What's behind the line cutter?
Are your splines and shaft free of burrs? the slightest burr will stop things from sliding on properly.
I had a hell of a time removing the line cutter due to a tiny little burr...I cleaned up the entire shaft before reinstalling and things slid on nicely.

Also, I think there are different types of props....but that line cutter and spacer should slide in farther.

Re: Fishing line deflector?

It appears so. Should be threaded holes behind your line cutter that the zinc bolts to.
Just to check...there should also be a zinc on your transom plate..at the bottom.

Re: Fishing line deflector?

New zinc ring and line cutter ordered. I was going crazy trying to figure out why it looked so off and it was so simple. Thanks!

You need to start a new thread with your questions, not just hijack an old thread that even has a different drive.
