Re: fitting short shaft as back up motor

Sure, you can install a trolling motor bracket. These allow you to lift and lower the aux. motor. I do how ever advise caution when using a short shaft motor. Because when in use the motor will set low behind the tramsom and is not proctected by the motor well, it has a tendency to get pooped in rough water. This is where a wave bounces off the stern and drouns the aux. motor.

you didnt mention the boat you are mounting too. However you should be able to purchace a aftermarket motor mount for it. and attach it to the outside of the transom like allot of sailboats have. This is kinda conditional on how tall the transom on your boat is. It is possible that the short shaft wont get deep enough without the powerhead going under if you have a real tall boat. ( like the kind that uses a long shaft motor )
