So, just got the flywheel off my 7.5 fleetwin - I purchased this from Kragen for $16.99:

http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/s...9/C2371.oap?keyword=harmonic+balancer+pullers

It does NOT have the correct size bolts for this flywheel so went to NAPA and got 3 hardened bolts and washer for $3.60

Set it up and started cranking down on it sprayed it with pb blaster the day before, gave it some heat and continued tapping (not whacking at it) then another turn and tapping, bit of heat more spray - took about 30 mins before she gave and it is correct it goes with a small bang.

So, have the old cracked coil in hand - NAPA has the part which is more expensive than this site but with shipping for me probably a wash. Will replace tomorrow.

Question: Does the darn thing come off easier next time? I am only going to replace the bad coil at the moment as the other looks just fine (a dark blue color) so if it fails I can probably replace fairly quickly now I have tools etc.

Nope, same amount of torque everytime equals same amount of pressure to get it off.

A 7.5 hp is an easy one too, try one of the big boys. I have my wife pull on the wrench with an extension pipe on it while I hold the strap wrench when I work on the big boys. She hates that job ;)

Be sure to pull up on the flywheel when tapping the center bolt with your hammer so that you do not damge the internals. I have never used heat or PB Blaster yet.

Is the plug wire original? I would replace it while you are at it.

I don't have a wife and girlfriend just won't do squat, nor do I have a strap wrench. I've been using one of these thingy's and it's cheaper than a girlfriend....

yeah, it's about equally "difficult" to remove the flywheel each time, but you get used to it the more you do it and it doesn't scare you any more :) My old 33 hp Jonson's flywheel sounded like a .22 going off when I first pulled it. I though for sure I had destroyed something, but it was fine. If you put the flywheel nut back on before you pull the flywheel then you don't have to worry about the fly wheel "flying" away on you. A strap wrench should be all you need to hold the flywheel for a little 7.5 hp. I use one for my 10 hp and it works great.
