Re: floor glassing question

Flour works very poorly! I used a little in an emergency situation. It acts like dough. It sticks to the spoon, putty knife, whatever. It didn't seem to adhere as well to the surfaces I used it on either. I highly recommend ordering cabosil from us composites if you can't find it anywhere else. They ship very quickly, and cabosil is cheap. Fine sawdust can be used, but I can't speak for how well it works.

Re: floor glassing question

That takes the place of chopped strand in the pb recipe, and gives it strength, but doesn't thicken it up as cabosil or flour of some sort does. And if you add too much it makes a hairy mess and is good for nothing.

You can't make it with just cut up CSM. Cabosil is the key ingredient.

West Marine has it, and Fiberlay, so do many other places, maybe not today though.

I again repeat my advice from your other glassing thread:
If you are on an ultra tight low cost budget, you might want to take a day or 2 and read thru some info that's been provided & ask lots of questions. Lots of questions have already been hashed thru & posted in other threads. Reading some of them may help all this stuff make more sense, be easier to follow, and ultimately, when you start working on some portion of the resto, it won't be so frustrating & you won't 'waste' materials or time.

Inexpensive, quick, easy & correct are not generally all equally available.

If you're on a tight budget, you can't afford to do it 'right', but you can afford to do it twice now, and again soon when the still less then sufficient work fails?

Re: floor glassing question

Just so EVERYBODY knows, I explained to KCK that Talc was NOT the ideal agent to use for a thickening agent but if he did NOT want to wait for the delivery of Cabosil and he just HAD to do it today, he could use the Talc with the understanding of it's propensity for absorbing moisture. I guess he as decided to use it.

Re: floor glassing question

WOG the spoon and mineral spirits sure beats the 3" PVC pipe i usually use, not so bulky and easy to clean off and run a bit tighter! thank you for that tip :D

Yes, your fillets looked good in the pix that was redacted. Edit the pix you posted, and then re-post it.

I'd like to see some pic of the below decks work or the thread you alluded to when you said this wasn't your resto thread.
