boat is 74 glastron 176 swinger, floor is removed to dash panel. 3 stringers need to be removed still. I cut the old floor out leaving @1/2 inch lip around boat. Boat will be used for fishing, mainly propelled by trolling motors only. I may put a 9.9 rarely if it's long enough.

Questions: Can Cedar boards be used for stringers 1x6x10?

What plywood is best? is oak ply worth it @36 sheet here?

I do not plan to glass anything. What about bedliner to seal
the stringers to floor then paint floor many coats to seal it What
paint to use on wood?

Well that's enough for now. thanks for the opinions.

Hi and welcome !!

OK frist Why the lip ??

You can use any kind of wood you wood like , ext, grade play wood or marine is the best, I used PVC beck boards on mine !!

I would think you still should glass the floor , it provides a lot of structure to the boat , even if you dont put a big motor on her , you still are going to be out on the water and other boats wakes put a lot of stress on the hull , It could fold up with you in it !!

How is the transom ?

And the bed liner will work to seal it so will poly , its cheaper then the bed liner!! 3 or 4 coats !!

Paint there are a lot of guys using rustiolem , John

The lip is cuz it's as close as i could get the cutoff wheel comfortably, it's glass only & very sturdy about 1/4 thick. last 6 -8 inches on both sides the hull is right against floor, i will have to taper the ply I'm sure. what about the cedar boards for stringers? can ply be bought thats dry enough? guy quoted me 5-800 to redo. I'm figuring 2 sheets ply 3 stringers 1x6x10
I reckon all the glass stuff, and paint is all else I'll have to buy and i can do work. Where to buy the poly paint? thanks for helps

I'm putting new stringers and a transom in my 66 thompson and I used ACX plywood, they have it in Fir and Arauco and costs about $31 per sheet for 3/4" and about $24 for 1/2" thick for the floors. This plywood is nice because it has fewer voids. The Stringers I am using are 2x pressure treated lumber, those are pretty cheap for quality ones from a lumber yard. I read the book called Runabout Renovation, it was a good book and that is exactly what the author uses in the boats that he rehabs. I just finished my transom and it came out really nice, I used 1 layer of mat, 1 sheet of wood, 1 layer of mat, then one layer of wood. I then bolted it to the hull through the drainplug hole, motor mount holes, and clamped it at the top. The next day I finished it off with two layers of mat and resin and mat at the top to seal it. It came out beautifully, and doing it this way should last a long time. When I first got this boat it was just to go fishing, but I have gotten attached and want to do everything right.

Bondo Fiberglass resin is great polyester resin and is only about $33 per gallon at advance auto parts, if you've got those where you live.

Not a floor expert, but I am an oak expert. This would be your last choice. I would use marine grade plywood or at least outdoor plywood. The latter being cheaper than the oak and much more durable. Oak is beatiful and it is what I use most as a stairway contractor (solid and ply) but it is absolute garbage in any type of exterior application.

Let me get this right robthompson66, when you did yours you just used a layer of matt then wood then matt then wood then matt ??? is that right ???

If so you didnt add a lot of struture to the resin, you really need to add some glass to that !! resin and glass is still very brittle !! john
