This is a 1982 Evinrude 7.5 Just finished rebuild with new Pistons, Rings, bearings and Seals. I have the engine up on a stand with the lower half in a Trash can of water. The engine starts on first or second pull, runs smooth. However, I have not run the engine for more than one or two minutes because I am going to replace the impeller in the foot. (previous post)
What is bothering me is - I have noted that the flywheel has a little play in it. Which is to say that before I start the engine, I can place my hand on the top of the flywheel on rotate it back and forth about an inch or so. Any thoughts????
Thanks for your help...

Do you really mean rotate? Or do you mean wobble, like it rocks back and forth or like the armature plate is loose on its mounting boss? Some free rotation is normal, you usually feel resistance when a piston is coming up on compression and as flywheel magnets get in close proximity to the staotr or charge coils.

-John

The flywheel is seating very well on the crankshaft. Pressed down and bolted with the key in place. So that when the flywheel moves (rotates) the crankshaft turns as well. My definition of rotate is "how the flywheel spins. When I manually spin the the flywheel, it feels as if the pistons do not start moving within the cylinders until I have rotated the flywheel afew inches.

not sure what to think. Could be OK. Just seems strange.

That would be rather unlikely...but you can check through the spark plug holes.... Turn the flywheel when the piston is up at the top....and observe the motion of the piston

hehe...just noticed how old this post is; something surely resolved itself by now :)
