Will it work though? It's not as rigid as styrofoam

It is hard to say exactly, but it's almost certainly closed cell. The spray foam is open cell and will hold water, but I personally think it's fine for what you are considering (to basically hold the closed cell foam).

Ayuh,... Don't worry about that 1/2" gap,... Leave it open for drainage...

That foam looks to be maybe 1/2" thick,...?

Wood Great Stuff has a pond and stone foam....they state that it's waterproof but don't say closed cell....guess we would have to call tech support and ask.

Well, I found this, Googling,

718256101p

http://www.google.com/search?q=Kwik...esult_group&ct=image&resnum=3&ved=0CEQQzAMwAg
DAP Kwik Foam is a polyurethane spray foam that provides airtight spot insulation (R Value = 5). Adheres to wood metal and fiberglass. Kwik Foam is a one part, moisture-cure, polyurethane foam that expands to a semi-rigid closed cell mass ideal for caulking and economically filling and sealing large cavities. Stops air infiltration and will not degrade or shrink. Kwik Foam contains a flame retardant.

Not SURE if it IS, but it says it is. Guess I learned sumthun!!!

Suggested Uses:
DAP? KWIK FOAM? is ideal for sealing around pipes, ducts, vents, electrical outlets and cables. It can be
used for filling large gaps and cracks in foundations, masonry walls, crawlspaces and more. It provides an
insulating seal to wood, concrete, brick, vinyl, steel and aluminum. Applications include homes, RV?s, mobile
homes, campers and boats. NOT RECOMMENDED FOR USE IN FILLING ENCLOSED CAVITIES
(BETWEEN WALLS OR UNDER TUB SURROUNDS). May cause jambs or sills to buckle. Cured
foam must be painted or stained for outdoor applications. *If stored in a dry area, may be used for up to 30
days from initial use.

It says boats! :D

That looks like fan fold insulation thats used to layer over a house's existing siding when doing a vinyl siding job.... It helps to give smooth surface to lay the siding and nail, plus the insulation factor...

I am not positive if that is closed cell or not, that question would have to be asked to a knowledgeable person at Lowes  good luck with that! I would use what Wood posted we sure that the right stuff ;)

I used this to seal up some gaps in the deck and it will hold water. I had to cover it with pl and let dry and then glassed over it.
The good thing about it is that it did not dissolve with the resin.

Re: Foam Board question??

All expanded foam will take water when pounded in a boat if held rigid, hydraulic pumping (hull pounding) will break it down.
Extruded foam (pink/blue board) is the least likely to allow water .
Blue extruded is denser and heavier, that might be better .
Great stuff is for draughts but mice love it too.;)
