i have a skeeter bas boat. its stripped to the hull. all the wood was rotten. its gone. i plan on using 3/4'' foam board for the skeleton of the stringers and ribs. has anyone ever used this before how does it work out. i plan on laying matt on it in layers of woven. shredded, woven, shredded, woven. i think this will be more than enough support. any ideas? plus it never had any ribs in it, just stringers. the transom is laid in as we speak. i used plywood. this boat sits low in the water so i want it to pop up a bit. im using more foam that was in two of these boats. can one use to much foam? its goin to have a 140 inline 6 merc hanging off of it. i figure that the ribs im putting in will weigh about 70 lbs, and the foam board will make up for the weight with extra bouyancy. i figure that once im done it will never sink even if broke in half. which is good right? its that underground concrete thermal foam. its uneffected by the resin. it actully becomes very solid when soaked with the glass. it will not soak up water.

I think the only bouyancy you will gain will be the reduction in weight. The foam won't really add bouyancy unless you are swamped. It sounds like a good plan though!

i layed up the mat and resin, it came out beautiful! i layed in the stringers nice and thick, then added the ribs. after coating the ribs and stringers again with woven, i layed in a layer of shredded on top of everything to laminate it together. turned out great! should be able to run it wide open just the way i like it. plus now it wont ever rot out on me at least

Do you know if the foam stringers are strong enough? If so, how do you know?

Re: foam board

Boyancy of foam only applies to swamped boat...how high your boat sits in the water will be affected by weight...

BTW...your sig link is not working...is this you?

yeah i havent fixed the link yet but it works if you cut and paste! yep thats one of my boats there. im currently rebuilding my skeeter i got for flats fishing down here. its goin to have a 140 merc on it that i just got done redoing. in the link that boat is my 30 footer, big block. it scoots at about 35mph or so. still in the finishing phases. just making sure its seaworthy before buttoning everything up. redid it all.

Re: foam board

the thing about this boat is...... i mostly do backwater where its almost anorexic water. thats where the snook and good redfishin is but, i also go out in off the coast a little to get sharks for fun. the thing im goin for is if i ever get swamped by big waves from the storms that move in and out, it would be great to know that even though the boat is full of water, the boat wont sink, and the outboard powerhead will still be up out of the water. i know on the skeeter website they have a video of a boat full of water and the thing will still float, start up, and eventully get to plane and pump itself out.
