hi all. very smart crew on this forum. if you were to put foam between your wooden stringers and your hull what type of foam would you use and how thick. it is for my 14.5' sunray speedboat.

any haywires here. i am thinking of puting a 90 on the back even though the boat is rated for 60. i figure if i beef everything up. 3 lavers of glass inside the hull, seacat transom. anything else i can do to beef it up.

thanks in advance

Put any wood you want in it.
layer it over with at least 3/8" of plastic, then the plastic is your stringer, doesn't matter if the wood rots.

You can get in trouble with the law. That's the worst.

Technically it is wrong and their are a lot of people on here that will get all over you about it. If you look around you'll find threads about it on here with some very valid points.

My boat is rated for a 120-hp and I've been in touch with guys running 225-hp on the same hull at over 100-mph. The only upgrades they've done are foot throttles and at least dual cable steering if not hydraulic.

Did you look into seacast yet? I think it's just way to expensive and they make the stuff here in town so I wouldn't have to ship it.

My boat is apart right now I'm putting in a new transom (plywood) and fixing anything I can find.

I don't know much about you boat. I did google it and found some ads but how is it made? Is it a chop gun boat or a laminate / core boat?

There seems to be a large concern with chop gun boats coming apart a speed.

Is that a concern with a 90-hp?

Don't know can't go to fast we're only talking about a 90-hp, but then again it's only rated for a little 60-hp.

If you read through the coast guard rating thread on here you might get more info to help you decide.

Again not sure about a Sunray.
