Hey everyone, I recorded a new song and put it up on a webpage. I would apprecaite it if I could get some honest feedback. With the guitar sound a maybe some ideas on style. Mind you its just a cheesy drum machine pattern put together and a couple quick guitar scratch tracks...... The project thus far has a few people from all over North America doing some parts for me but I also am in the process of putting together a project for in person musicians :) I have 3 that are being worked on that I feel are much better songs and quality but until then please check these out. Thanx.

Re: For those of you into Hard Rock music

I'm always impressed with anyone that can play an instrument.

I have been called schizo for my tastes in music. They are all over the place.

It's good, but for me is lacking something that I don't have the words for. (Dumb I guess)

Interesting ending though.

I know - useful huh? :D

Thanx for checking it out randy. At this point they are just scratch track demos until I can put something together and then use the skills of the other added members to expand the sond a little and hopfully give it that something its missing.

Not too bad Mike. I think I know what it's missing, and I am not trying to be a smart ace either....lyrics.

Seriously, lyrics. My son listens to Satriani, Buckethead and some other guitarists that play without lyrics. He gets ticked off when I tell him they all need lyrics. When I hear those guitarist, my son's music as well as your music, I can feel when the vocals are supposed to kick in, and when they don't, I get that same "missing something," feeling. For me personally, lyrics are a must.

Don't get me wrong, I like it. I think if you want to appeal to a much broader audience, lyrics are an absolute necessity. Take Buckethead for example, one of the greatest guitarist to ever pick up a guitar.......has a very limited following. I bet though, if he put words to his music, that would change.

Yes I agree. Vocals are not only needed but are nessasary. A band can sound great and with no or poor vocals its hard to listen too.

Re: For those of you into Hard Rock music

I love jams like that, especially playing to them . . . With that said, and understanding the lyrics/vocals comments, other than the ending there is nothing unique about it. Needs some type of hard break, or syncopated sumpin' or interlude, or coda . . . Musicologist alert!! I am a progger, so maybe it's just me. But I think it needs something to break it up; maybe throw the ending into the middle and then return to it for the end?

The guitar sound is really close, a teensy bit thin, but I listened on laptop speakers. The right amount of crunch, but maybe some more middle, maybe slightly dirtier? I have the same issue with Ozzie rhythm for example, I prefer a Van Halen rhythm sound.

Re: For those of you into Hard Rock music

I understood every bit of it.

QC, I agree that there needs to be some breaks and probably a few interesting bridges to conect the parts and keep it interesting. At this time Im writing to a drum machine so Im struggling to get some more progressive direction.

As for the guitar sound i also agree and have been tweeking it here and there. My stage sounds tend s to be heavy low end and med. highs with mid range on the low end ( Scooped). With this I recorded to guitar parts with bass zeroed out, mids zeroed and highs up a bit. There are 2 guitar parts paned 80% to ech side.( Crunch/Gain set to 66%) I have a hard time getting my sound I want without having the bass there to take up the low end a bit. When I have a bass player I will probably raise my mid eq to set myself apart.

Thanx man, I really only play my own stuff. I have about 2-3 others Im working on. Really hoping I can hook up with some other musicians to finish writing them though.

Sounded good and like others said it was missing a singer to complete.
If i were to say anything and i dint know it was you playing it. I would have thought it was Metallica playing that tune. But that's one of the kinds of music i like. I have even had the kids tell me to turn it down.

Awesome, I would have never guessed it was solid state. I have a Boss ME-50 and it sounds nowhere near that thick. Great tone and clean playing. I'd post a couple clips of mine, but well it sounds like crap compared to yours.:D

Re: For those of you into Hard Rock music

Thanx Puddle jumper, Metallica is one those bands that help shape who I am on guitar......At least old Metallica.

i386, That zoom is quite the machine.....It fairly new to me so I havent evn begun to tap into what it can do yet. I have a boss gt-6 that was my favorite effects unit ever but it sounds more digital direct in than the zoom. I play on a laney 50 watt tube amp (1/2 stack) ( Right now tubes are shot) And I also have a Line 6 spider II I use for my students to play on but for recording it just goes quicker and easier if I use the zoom. I will be replacing my tubes and playing the laney and the boss gt-6 when these songs get re-recorded with a band.

I have to agree....definitely had a Metallica sound to it. Not a bad thing.
Keep it going, but add some lyrics for sure.
Sounds good.

Vindication frogger . . . :D And I knew Mike would . . .

Ready, willing and able. That's why we were communicating. PM me and tell me how to help although 2500 miles limits some things. I don't know how to send tracks etc. . . . but I am sure I could figure it out. Equipment I got . . .

QC rocks out? I am now questioning everything I ever thought I knew. Is the sky really blue?

Having said that, you really need a vocal track to go over that... and no, I am NOT volunteering, and you should be thankful I'm not. :D You'll want someone with talent.

Re: For those of you into Hard Rock music

Awesome QC, How cool would that be to have some iboats collaberation on some music. First off what would you use to record.( All in one recorder or pc program) Mostly use mp3s(Smaller files) to send tracks back and forth. For you I would send the drums and guitar on one mp3 and when you record your parts you would send just the bass track back ( Well at first you would send me all three parts together to hear. The song Egypt was recorded that way. When the drums and bass are as good as you and the drum guy can get them I will then re-record my guitar so that it layers over the other parts perfect and it also gives you some freedom to add a bit by allowing me to be a bit flexable. Though on the last drum tracks I got he changed a few things and now Im struggling to get ny parts to fit.........It has been a good thing because it has pushed me to have to write a little different then I would........This is one of the reasons I dont want to write too much of one song on my own. Its better to be able to pull from each musician their parts in their style and then mesh them all together.
