Anybody know where I can get a good used or rebuilt (TYPE A - 2pc shaft) lower unit for a 1988 Force 125? I have a 9.9 mercury long shaft in excellent running condition I might be willing to trade.

Re: Force 125 lower unit

I'm not sure what you are asking here. 1988 Force outboards are one piece drive shafts far as I know....at least mine is. 2 piece came later, and I don't think they would bolt up, but I could be wrong.

Re: Force 125 lower unit

Robby Thanks for the reply!
Im not sure either. The manual says there are three basic designs. 1 pc. shaft/single port exhaust: 1984-1989: (60,80,125 hp), 2 pc. shaft/ single port exhaust(90 thru 150hp), and 2 pc. shaft/Dual port exhaust (90 thru 150hp). This motor is missing the serial tag, but mine definately has a two piece shaft (It kinda freaked me out when i took off the lower end and it came out of the shaft spline connector), water intake is aligned with prop shaft centerline, and the drain and vent plugs are screws with washers (gaskets). In my manual it says thats either an "A","B","C", or "D". depending on if it has dual port exhaust or not. How can you tell a dual port exhaust from a single port exhaust model? I dont see a clear difference looking at the exploded view of the unit. Sorry to ramble but I need to be sure which kind I have so I can try to replace it. (the lower driveshaft is seized from a water leak! I opened up the drain and nothing but water came out! Ouch! Any info I can get would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,
Andy
Walle¥e¤Maste®
P.S: I would be willing to pay for one (reasonable) or trade for aforementioned 9.9 merc in great shape.

All I can say is if its a 2 piece driveshaft, its not an 88....and the exhaust...?...dual port would be out the tail fin, and out the twin pee holes up on the middle lower unit I guess. Single would probably be prop exhaust only?

Re: Force 125 lower unit

The EXHAUST comes out the tail fin, and WATER comes out the twin pee holes from the pump. So its a....? Wait the manual says that on the type "B" dual port, the exhaust exits the adjustable trim tab/exhaust snout AND the propeller hub. Hmmm....

Walle¥e¤Maste®.

I have an 84 - 125 HP lower unit with a bad crack in the housing. All the internals are fine, It was easier to swap the unit so I bought a complete replacement on ebay.

The unit isn't doing me any good sitting in my basement, let me know if if you can use the parts.

Jeff

Re: Force 125 lower unit

Thanks ljshein, I think I may go with different brand motor, from what most people in here say the Force motors are not too dependable. Besides I dont have any of the special tools needed to make the swap. Thanks for the help,
Ånd¥
