Dam...that's 200 worth of gas lol. O well I will get it cleaned up. Thank you
May not be trashed. What I did with the gas out of my GTO's rusty tank was let it settle in 5 gal buckets for a couple days, I used my Mityvac (vacuum oil changer) to suck off the top of it leaving the sediment/last couple qts in the bucket, pumped it back in new tank through a paint strainer filter which caught everything.

if it isnt in the carb maybe filter is catching it and gets clogged restricting fuel flow at WOT...

Ayuh,..... Ya don't have to trash all of the gas, just the ship on the bottom,....
You can clean it up like Scott06 says, or what I've done is let it settle in the tank, then suck the snot off the bottom, with my mity-vac oil sucker-outer pump,....

Just plan on changin' the fuel filter a couple of times, after ya get the majority of the crap out,....

worst case, run the fuel thru the lawn mower and a bit in the truck/car

I would let it settle and filter like @Scott06 outlined

Just for kicks, get a 6 gallon outboard tank filled with 91-93 then run it wide open to see if the pinging is still present.
The original 302s came with Holley carburetors. The 302s were rated at 225 with a 4 barrel Holley. Try to find a good iron manifold from a Mustang, Comet or Fairlane. If you are in a sweet water area an aluminum will work.

Ya this engine had the 2 barrel rochester when I bought it so I just replaced the carb with the same. I've got all the gas out and am going to clean tank and replace filters and start over

I'm not a pertronix fan. However you should be able to clean it up. I would give them a call and see if they can send you a replacement cap/rotor

Before I installed it I noticed no gasket and I called them. The response was I don't need one. Would appear it would prevent that. I did call them.

The caps for my Prestolite look better than that, after a year or 2 on my salt water mooring! The caps for mine do come with a gasket.

I ran boat in driveway and started over with the carb adjustment. All the way in and 1.5 out. To get highest vaccume I'm about 2ish out 2.5 . I also set timing to 8 btdc. Any suggesting before I hit the water this afternoon for test run

See post 26. Adjusting your idle mix has no bearing whatsoever on how much fuel gets into your engine at wot.
What did you do about your fuel tank?

I've drained tank. Cleaned it best I can. Fresh fuel...changed fuel water separator..fuel filter. I've cleaned cap and rotor. All clamps and bolts are tight.

I'm going to install an inline fuel pressure gauge and see what's there.
