Got something interesting in the mail last night. It appears enough pitchfork and torch wielding F150, Expedition and Navigator owners gathered to convince Ford to feel a little of their pain. There's a class action settlement whereby the blue oval will reimburse 25 to 75 percent of the cost to replace the plugs if said cost exceeded $300. The higher the cost the higher the percentage reimbursed. I THINK I paid $600. If so I'll get a $300 check at some point but I have to dig up the VIN in order to confirm my cost. IMO the infamous cracking throttle body and crappy modular engine with plastic timing chain parts, self destructing cam phasers and other fun stuff are much more egregious offenses than the plug debacle, but at least I'm not bitter.:boink:Of course part of the settlement is Ford's ability to deny there was an issue (which in my case there wasn't, at least not with the plugs), but I guess three bills is three bills. Ummmm, great job Ford?

What years was that? Last Ford I had was a 2002 F150, I seem to remember there being some sort of plug issue reported that I never had in 100K+ miles (put on in 4 years)

I rec'd that notice, too. My '05 F150 is only at about 70,000 miles, so I haven't replaced my plugs yet. I'm wondering if I need to run out and have that done in case there are problems, so I can get in on the settlement. I also better read the settlement carefully....

Anyone else with an affected Ford who hasn't run the spark plug gauntlet yet?

Ford issued a TSB several years ago to change plugs at 60,000 miles instead of the 100000 they originally claimed. I currently have 201,000 miles on my 04 F150 and change plugs every 60-70k with no issues. Follow the TSB's and it helps. I intend to collect about $150.00 off the class action, the first time i had them changed it cost me $450.00 due to the extra work incurred. Did not break any off. The 98-03 had an issue with blowing plugs out of the heads that i dont know if they ever had a fix for.

The fix for the 97' to 03' was an insert. I had three F150s in that span, one I still have. I bought the repair kit ($250), it's not hard to do the fix. So far one plug has blown out, but I only have 85,000 on my 01'. No help from Ford on this.

I had a 2006 F-150 5.4 Litre . The spark plug issue was a nightmare. When I started exploring it, I visited a Ford Dealership in my home town. The service manager would not even quote me a price for changing the two-piece plugs....he took me in the back and showed me an Expedition with the engine pulled completely out of the vehicle. I guess 6 of 8 plugs had broken off and were stuck in the aluminum heads. Repair cost? $3800

I ended up doing the job myself...and I still broke off two plugs despite following the service bulletin exactly. I purchased a special threading tool from E Bay, and finally got the old plugs out. I went ahead and changed out all 8 coils at the same time. My Cost? $800 which is still crazy for a simple plug change. This was a real nightmare...terrible design.
